Dirty back window

Hi, how do you guys deal with the dirty back window?

My car doesn't have Opti-Coat. I polish and wax my car twice a year. I wash it at least every 2 weeks. It's annoying that some dirt just get stuck on to the glass and paint. They won't go away easily.

I wonder if Opti-Coat can solve this problem and also wondering what else can be done?

I had this issue on my 08 Polo GTI. It was white, and I would also get heaps of dirty and exhaust caked on to the bumper and tailgate.

I decided to go for a darker colour on my Golf GTI: Carbon Steel. I didnt want that to happen again, so its one of the reasons I got it.
I also have Opticoat on my car since it was 2-3wks old.
In 6 months, it still looks like new after its washed. No black spots or left over dirt.

You should always clay block your car every 6 months to remove the contamination you are seeing.

Even though my car is polished and waxed, once out on the road it gets dirty and things get stuck on to the paint. I wasn't expecting that to happen because I just waxed the car. It's so smooth and yet dirt stuck onto the paint.

You will always get dirt and tar and exhaust spots on the back of the Golf, because it's a "flat back" hatchback. The front of the car punches a hole in the air, and then there is a rather sudden "end" to the car and you can the air circling around in the void creating a turbulence which brings all the dirty water spray, tar, and exhaust spots back onto the car.

Having a good wax/sealant etc on the car will just help in the ease of removing those contaminents. You'll still need to regularly wash the car and clay block it and all that stuff. It'll just be easier to do!

Go easy on the clay, that should be done only about once a year as although it removes contaminants it does in turn damage the paint which a poilish correction addresses.

As Corey suggests a quality sealant and wax/synthetic should be applied on a semi regular basis to ensure protection, washing weekly of course is compusary and failure to undertake will result in fines and jail time

It definitely makes it easier to wash the car, but that video is def misleading. You can't just spray everything off.
I'm not going to get into what paint protection etc to use (there are threads for that). All I am going to say is that Opti-Coat is working well for me, and it's easier to clean the car too.

I had opticoat applied on my R.

Washed the car on the weekend, 4 weeks after the last wash (lots of rain and then forecast of rain put me off washing it sooner) and after a 1100km country trip.

I noticed that there were a lot less tar spots than I have ever had on a car (doesn't mean that this was due to the opti coat though - may just have been lucky) but those spots that I had just disappeared as I rubbed over them with my wash mitt. No hard elbow grease required.

Being the lazy sod that I am, it made me smile and think that maybe i did the right thing after all. I would recommend the opti coat if you are having issues with sticking dirt.

Parked next to another rb Golf R at Bridgepoint shopping centre and I swear mine was about 10 shades darker in colour.

Haven't cleaned it in well over 3 months despite doing plenty of backroad blasts, highspeed wet weather stuff and lots of dirt road driving.

try some rain-x on the glass. Seems to help with dirt as well
