After changing the time in the MFD Menu yesterday I noticed the "Comfort Light" option ticked in the MFD Menu. Looked up the manual but can't see any mention of this. After unticking it, I didn't notice and difference to my current light functions. Anybody know what it does? Thanks...

Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

No problem, as long as you know where to turn it off.
I thought it was quite a neat idea until I almost had a major accident because of it. I was approaching an intersection in Bendigo and wanted to turn left. I was not that familiar with the intersection and ended up indicating a touch early. There was a street coming in from the left around 25 m from the intersection and a car wanting to turn left saw my indicator and decided to come out. I turned the indicator switch off, but it kept going because of the setting. I foolishly thought that indicating right would cancel it, only now it was going to do its 3 flashes to the right. With all this, drivers did not know what was happening and there was much braking as everyone moved and then propped and left themselves in a rather dangerous position.
As this is promoted as a lane change function, it should only kick in above a certain speed and even then there should be a way of cancelling it.

you can cancel it by putting the indicator lever into the full indication position and then back to neutral position.
so if you accidentally knocked it left then press it fully to indicate left and then back to the centre... this will cancel the lane function.1974 1300 Beetle, 1997 Golf GL, 2003 New Beetle Cabrio, 2014 Audi A4 quattro

I just went out and turned it back on, then tried to do what you say and all it does is cancel the first 3 clicks but then start 3 clicks on the other side. It does not cancel it, and this is the issue.
One thing I noticed with the menus is that originally the setting to turn this feature on and off was in the Light and Vision and called Comf. Lig.. When I just tried this, it is now labelled Comf. Ind. so it looks like the dealer has applied an update when it went in for its courtesy service. The change however is only to the label and not the way it works.

I love the 3 lane flash. One of the best features of European cars. VW, Audi, BMW, (I haven't driven a recent merc) and even the Ford Focus all have this feature. I can understand the confusion for people who didn't expect it to be there, but once you know it's there and how it works, I think it's great. I guess the initial "almost crash" descibed by wai is just yet another reason why you should be reading the owners manual asap

I start indicating in one direction; want to cancel it so I go fully the other way and return it to the centre (off) position immediately. This simply sees the last selected direction flash 3 times.
The wording in the manual suggests that what you are saying is right, but the reality here is that it does not work the way described in the manual.
The manual says:
To operate the lane change flash, push the lever up or down to the point where you incur resistance and then release the lever. The turn signal will flash three times.
This implies that the lane change should only work when the indicator is moved to this resistance point and then released, and if the indicator lever is pushed all the way to the lock position and then returned to the centre (off) position it should only flash for as long as the switch is latched.
The problem is that here it does not. There has been at least one software update that has been applied. When I picked the car up, the menu item read Comf. Lig. and now it reads Comf. Ind. after the courtest service.
