  • VW Golf Performance model sales (GTI & R July 2011)

FYI, I picked this up from the MPS forum, it's put together by someone from Mazda.

Interestingly the R outsold the GTI in July by 57 units was wondering if there is anyone here on the forum who has access to VFACTS data and could share this info on this forum? Anyway I find it interesting

Could it be because of the EOFY sale on GTIs in June? Sales all brought forward into June. No stock left for July?

Quite possibly. I mean you can see right there, that the GTI has sold twice as much year to day.
Also, in the June stats, the Golf was the 4th most sold car overall in Australia. It sold 3200 something (from memory...). So the EOFY sale had a big impact on GTI and lower models, but the R was excluded obviously.

If you order a car and put down a deposit and have to wait say 4-5 months for the car to be built, at what point is the sale counted? When you place the order or when you get the car?

Frankly I have no clue, but I doubt it's anything to do with delivery, more to do with the contract or money.

I'm a little surprised the Focus got that far ahead of the Mazda 3, that 5cyl is a brilliant thing though.

The figures are based on new vehicle sales.

9314.0 - Sales of New Motor Vehicles, Australia, Apr 2010

An order is not a sale, it is an agreement to complete the transaction once both parties have fulfilled their obligations under the contract. That said, it is open to manipulation. Tales of dealers registering a large number of demos in December are no unheard of.

If you signed a sales agreement, it would count as a sales.

                Magellan,

"Contract of Sale" is not considered a "Sale" (IMHO). It is certainly a "legally binding sale agreement" but not considered a sale. Only when the car is delivered and the amount has been paid in full is considered a sale. (One can break the "legally binding sale contract" and walk out of it with full deposit back!)

There are some VW dealers here on this forum - they might be able to confirm this!

                Cheers,

I believe it based on New Vehicle registrations? Hence some car companies providing incentives for dealers to register a few extra "demonstrators" at certain times of the year to boost the stats. Technically those cars have not been sold but are counted.
If you dig a hole and it is in the wrong place, digging it deeper isn't going to help.

I believe the stats are based on no. of vehicles registrations. Stock ebbs and flows in waves. Some dealers are allocated a certain amount of stock. If they fail to sell alocated stock, they may receive less stock the following year, hence a desire to register certain models as demos to make them look like legit sales.
                    Cheers.

When you sign the Contact of Sale, the sale is not then registered for such Tallys until it is R.D.A'd or registers with VW australia through the Dealership, If the Car is being delivered that month this will happen straight away otherwise, eg for a forward order this will happen once the vehicle has been collected, If the dealer RDA"s the vehicle and it falls through, the vehicle then puts back on the yard, but not under the new car banner, because of its registration with VW australia in the original purchasers name, it will be considered as used, although there are people out there that will try sell it to you as a demo.
