  • auto window up and down stopped working

weird thing happened. i press and hold the down switch for the front drivers window and when i release it usually rolls all the way down, and vice versa when i flick it up. but know it doesnt do that. it just goes down when i press and stops when i release.
is there something i can toggle to reactivate it? perhaps hold the switch for 10secs or something?
also noticed the key fob wont open and close the windows when i press lock and unlock. it used to do this before.
    super weird, any advice

Take it into the dealer and they will regrease the rails

I had a problem with my driver side window in that one in a while, if I lifted the switch, it would go all the way up, then 1/4 down again... Was only a couple of times but the dealer did oil it and said it should be all good (no actual fault was picked up on the computer..)

I'll pre-empt this with a RTFM, because I'm sure that's what it'll come down to.....

And now I'll ask a question to confirm this or not.
walbjj, did you disconnect your battery for some reason?

      If so, read the manual
I'd give you the actual answer, but I honestly can't remember specifically what it is. It involves something like manually putting the windows up and down a few times, but I can't remember specifics.

battery may have been disconnected, the car was at EA to get my OPS sorted as well as intake and dp installed. so things happened.
i recall that a similar thing happened with my s2000, i think i held it in up position for a while. ill fiddle around with it tonight

Yep - it's definitely it then. Funnily enough, I experienced this too after a trip at EA to get the APR Stage 2+ kit done... lol

The manual explains the exact steps to resolve it. Was a pretty simple thing which took 30 seconds.

You will need to basic set your windows which means the control unit will know when the highest and lowest point is reached

it somehow miraculously works now. i came home, parked the car, went upstairs. then when i came back to pop out i opened the window and it went down automatically. goddamn technology

The same thing happened to me about 2 weeks ago – But it was only affecting the rear windows. I hadn’t modified the car in anyway or disconnected the battery. It was just after starting-up the auto down/up function wasn’t working – Front two windows were OK.

About 20 minutes down the road everything went back to normal. Auto up/down all good on the rears…. It hasn’t happened since, just thought I’d share the odd experience with you all….

I've had this happen on both MkV and MkVI cars, including the fixing itself. Tried realigning, as per the manual, in the MkV and it fixed the problem but returned a few months later. Also had the dealer look into it, just in case but they found nothing unusual (and then reset the windows anyway just to be sure). Eventually I just gave up fixing it as it always went away after a day or two.

Also, when using the remote to make all the windows drop I found that most of the time at least one rear window didn't drop - always a rear, never a front. It wasn't connected to the alignment issue as it didn't always line up with the timing of both issues.

                    the reset procedure is:
with windows up, hold both window switches in auto up position for 3 seconds

it's something you usually have to do after you disconnect battery

yeah which ever window you want to basic set, go all the way up, release switch then up again for 2 seconds. Then do the same but down.

yeah.... I can;t remember what I did after having the battery disconnected, but I know that I resolved the issue whilst driving home... it was literally whilst sitting at the lights and looking at the manual

There is a logic behind this stuff Thanks everyone for their contributions
