I got the missus the 77TSI with the 1.2T engine as well.
It's quite responsive.
The Focus 1.6 is going to be tardy next to this. I tested a C30 with a 2.0NA and Ford/Volvo's version of DSG back to back with the 1.2T Golf and the Golf is just more fun to drive. By a big margin.
There's supposed to be an ECU reflash for the 77TSI as well. But I think that's a bit overkill for the car. I did fit an Alpine 900 7" touchscreen with an Alpine reverse camera for the missus. Dynaudio Esotec 242GT speakers and JL Audio XD400 bridged to stereo. Sounds pretty damn good.

I just recieved a set of 17" Goal Anthracite rims that i bought online, I took them down the the local tyre shop and when the guy who works there did a test fit he said that the wheels would scrub. I had a look and he appears to be right, the quarter in question is the rear right where the fuel filler pipe goes down to the tank and there appears to be very little clearance on the inside of the wheel. Now, it appears to me as if they WOULD fit (albeit with nearly no clearance) but I really don't know if there is something different with these golfs compared with the 90's, 118's or GTI's that would mean I couldn't fit these wheels.
I did a fair measure of research before I bought these rims and expected them to be an easy fit. I think the stock steelies are 15x6's and the goals are 17x7.5 ET51. Obviously there is no issue fitting them to the front. The only other thing I noted was the possibility I'd require suspension limiters (as stated on the ECS tuning website) even though my dealer told me it should be fine with 17's (I'm more likely to pay attention to ECS btw).
Your comments on this situation will be greatly appreciated.

The Skoda was noticeable faster, especially in gear.

Hi Guys,
I have the wheels fitted now. To set out all the info:
-2011 77TSI
-17 x 7.5 VW Goal Anthracites ET50
-They fit without any problems or scrubbing whatsoever despite what the guy at the first wheel shop said.
-There isn't a great deal of clearance on the inside of the rim at the back...but i guess you don't need much
Doggie, I heard about an APR stage 2 tune that takes the 77 up to 117 but you need exhaust and intercooler done first, still pretty impressive. I agree that this car is a lot of fun, even when you stack it up to a GTD (a mate of mine has one). Obviously not as much power but you can play with gears and revs alot more. So far I've fitted an RCD510 I bought from a guy on the northside for $300 and am working on Cruise Control, a MFSW, R line Tails, Bluetooth, and the little sunglasses holder that comes in pretty well all the other models.
MrGee - yep 225x45's
Here are some photos, hopefully this works! Oh and its on a hill with handbrake on so gaps aren't that big normally.

I doubt it - the car has probably detuned itself by as little as possible so you'd be running max performance as it is.Resident grumpy old fart

I used to tune my old Evo 8MR to run on RON95 cos of the quality of fuel across the border in Malaysia (original ECU was tuned for Japanese 98 with low sulfur) when I went for track days. Car still made good power though I tuned it more for sustained torque rather than peaky power delivery though.
