Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Front Ash Tray hard to close

    Hey all

My now 7 week old GTI has been great, except for the front ashtray which has been hard to close from week 1 (not sure if the mechanism was loose or not). It takes about 4-5 attempts before the hydralic locks in.

At my 1 month service, I was told that it was fine by the Gold Coast, but was still having trouble closing. I tested some today at another dealership and all the GTIs there were fine. So I got their service guys to look at it and was told that the mechanism is broken and needs to be replaced (under warranty).

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

I had the same problem... until I worked out if I push on the bottom right hand side when shutting, it locks in EVERY time! Might just be mine that does it... but give it a go!

I was pushing in the middle for 4-5 times a go to get the bloody thing shut before!

Thanks Chopper. I was in the dealer today and it closed perfectly 3 times in a row (murphy's law!) until the problem occured.

Will have to try that technique - although it still seems odd if that is the case (using the bottom right, given that the chrome line is in the middle!)
