After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Replacement brake bulbs

    Hi all,

My Mk6 GTI has a blown brake bulb and I'm having trouble finding a replacement. My local VW told me its a standard 16W 12V bulb and I could buy them at autobarn. I went to autobarn but they couldnt find anything that was 16W to suit the VW.

Question - do our golfs need a special bulb or can some tell me what model aftermarket bulb will fit?

    much appreciated,
    -Skitz

Update - Autobarn carry a narva bulb that fit and are the correct wattage. Note that the bulb is called a '21CP' which means 16watt.

I've seen so many Golfs (MK5's) out there with blown break/tail bulbs its not funny..! Hopefully the MK6 wont be as bad with this.

I had the same problem with my TDI and after swapping the bulb once or twice I realised that it wasnt the bulb failing but there was an issue with the wiring.. Have you inspected the bulb itself? I got my replacement bulbs for the MK5 from Shell petrol station.

Take the globe out and look at the base of it (metal bit!). The wattage will be on that.

        You may find they're 21W — the all-glass push-in variety.

If so, the wattage is printed on the glass bulb.

The Golf VI uses wedge bulbs extensively at the rear, as indicated by the letter "W" in front of the wattage rating.

          Brake / tail lights: W16W

They're not easy to find, so contact Invision Sales (Australian distributor for Philips) to find out where to buy them.

As always, your owner's manual should contain instructions on how to replace them.

Thank you very much Diesel_vert, I shall try to track down some bulbs. I have an account with Phillips so I'll see if they can ship them to me directly.

            Thanks again

              LED globes

Hi all ive searched about this but only found info from back in 2008. I've replace all the other globes in the car to canbus LED globes accept obviously the headlights and taillights/brakes lights.
Has anyone tried using LED brakes globes in their mk6 in the normal tail lights (obviously not the R LED lights)??

              thanks guys
