Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Back on track regarding the folding mirrors.
Steve Budak and I have been discussing this and he believes that he can do it, last time I spoke to steve, he had imported the parts as a test and was going to install it for a trial. Steve is the proprietor of Volkstronic and is really helpful.
May as well install the foot lighting under the external mirror while you are at it?

      Folding Side Mirrors

      Hi Guys,

Just wondering whether there is a kit to convert the normal side door mirrors to ones that can fold in at the push of a button.

I am always worried about people hitting them with their car doors, etc

Also I have a narrow driveway

      Any help would be appreciated

Generally speaking this forms part of the "memory seat package" and theres an additional position in the top of the mirror switch.
If it can be retro-fitted maybe someone on here knows how too and can share there experiences!

Other than that, you maybe forced to push them in yourself!

It is a great feature to have though. I had it on my previous 2008 Passat 2.0T FSI...

has there been any update on this?

it looks like folding mirrors are becoming standard on many manufacturers cars these days - its about time as they've always been available since the 90s and I find folding mirrors so useful particularly when parking in tight spots or parking at night on some dodgy street as the help reducie the chance of your mirrors getting side swiped or vandalised- its just that in Australia the importers have traditionally never spec'd the cars with this feature as to keep costs down.

if you go to NZ you'll find most second hand Japanese imported VWs have folding mirrors as standard. When I lived over there I did a few retrofit installs of folding mirrors with Japanese cars - I would go to the wreckers and dismantle the folding mirrors and wiring from a wrecked donor car. This could be an option though the car may need some programming?

Or better still has anyone tried ordering the necessary parts through a dealer. I own a 2010 Golf GTI and sure that my mirror switch has the folding mirror button, just doesn't have the folding mirrors!

have you been to Japan ? their roads are so narrow you nearly need a folding car no wonder they go for folding mirrors

If you look at the mk7 thread, someone has done it for a reasonable price with all original parts from VW

post number 49. If I'm not wrong, it all costs around $800? Even with out low AUD
