It's extremely hit and miss. As far as VGA are concerned, dealers should not be taking deposits/signing contracts for cars not yet released. Thus, at least for all models released in the past two years, the customer specs for pre-deliveries have had zero relevance to the first shipment of cars, nor about whether you get a car in the first delivery or not. It's basically a situation of, if you've placed a deposit with a dealer, they'll probably give you first pick. But it's literally that, you have first pick of what they're given - which may be absolutely nothing like what you want. Sometimes the dealers can swap between them to make things better... but it seems just as many people end up walking away than compromising on their "order". And it's very rare that someone actually gets what they wanted...

Hey guys
Stumbled across this forum after putting down my deposit for a GTi 35! Very much looking forward to picking it up in late Sept/early Oct.
After calling around to a few dealers, what I learnt is that all the red and white cars are fully optioned, whereas the black and carbon cars are all 'base' models. So, there's no ability to get a black with leather seats etc.
One thing I can't find any info on is what sort of sound system the car is coming with. The Dynaudio system wasn't an available option on this car, and it would seem odd that a high-end version of the GTi wouldn't be available with the high-end stereo system. Does anyone know what the deal is? Unfortunately because there are none of these cars in the country, not even the dealers know much about them.
I put down a $1k deposit which is fully refundable in the event I see the car and don't like it, so there was no harm in putting the deposit down!
Never had a new car, so I'm excited!

Afternoon ladies and gents. Been lurking for the last month or so reading up on these little beasts, figured that today (with this lousy Sydney weather and the new car not here yet) was a good opportunity to finally sign up.
Put a deposit down on a black 35 (DSG, Jacky trim) about two weeks back. Initially opted for the dark grey metallic wheel option but the dealer (Barloworld at Five Dock) called me a few days later with the news that it isn't looking like any of these wheels are coming into the country at this stage, despite the option being mentioned on the presser. Wasn't too put out by that if I'm honest - saving myself some money up front, and I was always going to look at alternatives after the novelty had worn off anyway. I was told the black/tartan combination was no problem, which seems to match the info ajdean came across regarding paint/option combinations.
As with ajdean/crops, expecting a late Sep/early Oct delivery. The contract actually says the 30th September but the guys at Barloworld were fairly confident that it may make it in before that date - hope so, the wait is killing me, it's going to be such a massive improvement for me. For the record, I'm upgrading from an 07/08 Mazda 2, which is an awesome little car that has served me incredibly well as a first car. Frugal, has never left me stranded, looks the goods compared to other cars in the category, agile, easy to park etc etc. Would recommend as a first car to anyone that cannot find a Polo, which would be my choice these days.
In terms of choosing what to buy, it was the DSG and the availability of the 35 edition that made my decision for me in the end. I'd had my eye on a Giulietta QV since they were announced, but I didn't want to teach myself (read: destroy) a manual gearbox on a 50 grand Alfa. To get an DSG/TCT box, I'd have to wait till mid 2012, and even then, I'd be stuck with a base model without any of the touches that make the QV what it is. With the 35, I'm not skimping on anything - I love the R LEDs, I love that I can drive it in full or semi auto, the specs are impressive etc etc.

For anyone with a Mark6 GTi, is the standard stereo up to scratch?

I'm stepping up from a VX Commodore Wagon that I've had since I was 18, so I won't know myself with these new set of wheels!

after originally ordering a GTI ..and be happy with our order/price..I now am glad that i am not getting it.. i thought the 35 edition was the go.. however the prices was $49k not negotiable.. and we are now driving away in a 5door my12 R for a touch under $52k.. it makes me wonder..why doesnt everyone just jump up to the R? you kinda get alot more of a car for your money? .. unless im missing something (ive never owned a golf before so I dont know the sentimental value GTI owners have - I have only had STI's etc..) ..I just think for 2k more the R is the better option?nom nom nom
