The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Stock Mk6 GTI brake pad material - What are they made of

I am interested in find out what the stock brake pad material is on the Mk6 GTI. I have found that these pads are really outstanding for normal driving, and that they have very low brake pad dust. I'd like to use pads with this material on my other cars as well.

    What are they made of?

Really? I've found the brake dust to be horrendous. Unless they use a different compound or pad in the US?

Good point, the US cars have next to no brake dust. Do AUS cars have pads that give off black dust?

        Hey Guys,

I can reply to this, Having lived in Australia (118TSI) and now living in Canada (GTI)

For some reason the Nth American Cars don't have the same pads as the Euro/Aus cars, my 118 was getting dirt within 2 days of washing, the GTI there is none!

As you the OP first question, have no idea, mine's a lease and I leave the servicing up to VWoC

I'm sorry but unobtainium is the gayest sh*t ever.... if they can actually get it out of the ground then it really should be 'slightly-hard-to-obtainium'.

I am sorry but, "if they can actually get it out of the ground then it really should be 'slightly-hard-to-obtainium'", what happens if it is actually very difficult to get out? your comment is as gay as mine. Who says it even come out of the ground? sorry you're from WA everything must come out of the ground...

If something is unobtainable then it cannot be obtained, which means that they can't get it AT ALL. And he is holding a piece of it when they fly in so they must have OBTAINED it somewhere.

And it is out of the ground as you may remember from the movie the place has large deposits, specifically under that big tree that they are all so lovey dovey about.

My 'gayest' comment was about the unobtainium.... not about your input as such.,... I actually found it quite funny.

To answer the OP's question, brake pads are usually made up of mineral fibers, cellulose, aramid, PAN, chopped glass, steel, and copper fibers.
Different applications and specs may vary from country to country for operating temps and different factors.
