Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Golf R Shiftpoints DSG

    Hi all,

Does anyone know at what speeds the dsg shifts at when you are using it in sports mode? e.g. shifts to second at 40kmh third at 80kmh etc

Just curious for when I get mine regarding testing it out and which gear I will be in before I start breaking speed limits...not that I will be

    Cheers

it will shift depending on how hard you are pushing the car, whether or not you are on an incline etc there are limits of course. in my GTI sports mode can carry 3rd gear all the way to 75-80km

but there are always the paddles - although i find that DSG does a better job than I do in most situations, and it will tell you the which gear you are in the MFD

edit : oh and yes you will unintentially break the speed limit several times, its just one of those cars

Yes, it depends on how much throttle %age you apply / revs, not really based on speed (esp in D mode).

Sorry I should have clarified, I mean redline shiftpoints when giving it the full beans.I would assume they would be the same regardless of conditions as the are simply a result of gearing, diff, rpms etc

Oh right, well (1) I don't have the R, and (2) when driving like that I'm usually focusing on the road and not so much the speedo (can usually feel when you're roughly doing the correct speed, followed by a quick glance to make sure). =) I do know that I've reached around 80kph in 2nd before though, which is actually quite an achievement consider how short first gear is on the DGS-7spd.

            The redline is 6500rpm.
It doesn't shift at the redline. It still depends on what you're doing, and what mode the gearbox is in...
