Central locking Q

Ok this has been bugging me for a bit, but it took a while for me to ask because I feel like a dum-dum for asking.

Anyway, when the car is central locked, the passenger side doors can still be opened (all doors, including back door - driver not included). The central locking works fine in its inteded usage i.e. can't open from the outside.

I've read that you can set it so that you need to pull the door handles twice before the door opens from the inside.

I've tried a couple of the combinations from the MFD, but nothing works.

I've read the manual in regards to the door and locking section, but still doens't answer or give me a solution. Or unless im not reading anything correctly.

My manual setting under doors in the MFD is "individual" and under automatic its "auto open and auto close".

Does anyone know how to get the door handle to flick twice before opening from the inside?

I don't think this is an error per se, but when the car is switched off the MFD says "Check safe locking! Check manual!".

Disable "Auto Open"?

I don't think that there is any way to change it so that you need to pull the door handle twice to open the doors.
If you're worried about children in the back of the car, then open the doors and flick the switches to enable the child locks.

I can't help with the door handle twice thing however we get the "Check Safe Locking" message on the MFD of our Tiguan and it's not an error message. Apparently it's to warn you that the central locking is set so that once the car is locked from the outside it cannot be opened from the inside, obviously it's to prevent thieves from easily opening the doors if they break a window but the warning is in case you lock the doors with people still in the car, they will not be able to get out.

Hmmm.... Well I suppose VW engineers thought people would be smart enough not to open the door during movement. Would've much preferred if the inside could not be opened as well as the outside, but eh, what can you do?

Think I'll leave the child locks, more trouble than its worth I reckon. Just gotta remind back seat passengers to not open the door during movement (why would anyone anyway? lol).

Yeah I originally had "auto open" unticked, but ticked it to see if it made any difference with the other manual configurations.

Yeah - that's why I mentioned the child locks. Unless you have dumb friends that you should really get rid of, I assumed you are worried about young children...

Set manual to "all doors". Uncheck "auto open and auto close".
While driving, you can manually lock doors. When you try to open a door, first pull unlocks (central locking), second pull opens door.

Are you sure that's what that setting is for? The "auto open" part is whether or not the car will unlock the doors after you've pulled the key from the ignition or stay locked...

Not 100% sure since I confess not to have RTFM cover to cover.
But that's how double pull works now and that's how it works in previous german cars I have driven.

Capercap, yeah, the doors autolock after 15km/h or so.

Now if you were to turn off autolock after 15km/h I believe the door handles will only require one pull to open. Not 100% though.

of course they will... if you turn the autolock off, the doors are still unlocked when you're driving
