  • Bi-xenon issues

Sorry if I'm starting a new thread.
Couldn't find any info on this.

Well picked up car 2 days ago, car is great.

Only issue I'm having are my bixenons do not move while in motion while I turn.

Have been in another Gti and the headlights are noticeable they actually move and light up the road in that certain direction.

I have ticked the box in mfd for bending light, but that hasn't solved the problem.

Went to Barloworld Fivedock today, told them the problem.
They then told me that bixenons do not move while you turn, only foglights.
I find that kinda hard to believe.

Could anyone clarify anything on this issue for me, or know how I can fix this.

    Cheers

The Bi-Xenon's do turn. Call them up again and get them to read the brochures or manuals

Btw, when I first got the R, I didn't realise notice the lights turning when I was on the actual corners. What I noticed was the lights "straightening back up" when I was past the turn - such as when turning into a suburban street. You also need to be doing over 30km/h or something.

mk6tsi, try out the xenons on a very dark street (no street lights if possible) and travel above 30km/h.

Also, do they move/self level upon ignition?

          Problem solved.
          Car was in travel mode.

Unticked travel mode in the mfd, now all works as it should.

Wow, that's the result of a bad delivery.
What do we pay ridiculous delivery fees for?
I'm glad you've got it sorted.

Not only do mine turn left/right, but at night when I turn the car on, they dip down and then raise up to the normal drive height again. Pretty cool to watch.

                  Hi
Polo GTI 12.5 bi xenons seem to have a dark area where beams overlap - sort of a "v" shape - causing some problems on country roads at night. Anyone having similar issues? This is my first experience of bi xenons so not sure if it's a problem or just how they work.
                  Thanks

I was also wondering whether the xenons should move to look into the corner you are entering as my MFD has the "bending light" box checked.... This morning I paid close attention to the headlights and they do turn left and right with cornering as stated above...

Also noted this ^^^ when i started the car.... they seem to go up and down and maybe left/right as a system check before levelling themselves.

Yeah, got the same 'problem' with my Passat's bi-xenons . . . with high-beams there seems to be a 'dark' zone right in front of you in the distance where your eyes naturally go to when travelling at highway speeds. With normal high beams the second beam fills this space, but with bi-xenons one beam is all you get. On low beams it is OK for me.

They light up everywhere else beautifully but leave a dark patch right in front of you in the distance . . . annoying.

When I get to the first service (unless I get annoyed enough beforehand to do something about it) I will have them point the lights a little inwards so that you get bright spot overlap in the far distance on high beam - you get enough side spread that a couple of degrees inwards will not make a difference to the sides.

edit/update: did a long night drive recently . . . think the buggers at the factory did not alight the lights properly as I have a very bright spot about 20 degrees to the right (and a dark spot right in front of the car on high beam!) - will have to adjust them and see if that fixes my problem!

My issue is when using low beam - on high beam I have no problem. As I live in the country and share my roads with a variety of wildlife I think I'll have to get it adjusted before the first service.

there is a certain algorithm to the bi-xenons working.

First there is the self test on start up where they dip and then level up.

turning lights work at speeds 0 to 18 kmh.

works that way on my car.

I'm sure it they work at higher speeds

The lights only turn above around 20km/h. Below that and when stopped, they point straight.
