Have the Scirocco version but the chassis is very similar to the Golf.

This might sound daft but re-gap your plugs (118TSi) to 0.7mm (31 thou). They are not checked at the factory and generally come badly over gapped at 0.85mm when the setting is 0.7 to 0.8mm. Re-gapping leads to a much smoother engine.

I did this to counter misfires but one of the side effects is that I don't get the axle tramp banging. I also let the front tyres down 2.5 psi below the tank flap setting.

Still get wheel spin but now cos the engine cylinders are firing properly, the wheel spin is spin - just that, not jumping and thumping. And I don't get wheel spin happening as much despite sporty take-offs.

a Torque Arm Insert or VWR engine mount + Whiteline ALK will keep those front wheels firm on the ground My GTI is getting boring now, need more powaar to tramp.

            Noise and vibration when accelerating

            I have a worry.
Some times when i take off from a standing start, with more than normal exuberance, the wheels start to spin I get a strong vibration like the front wheels are sort of "bouncing"
            Anyone have a similar experience?
Is it the traction control being over protective?
It sounds really violent and I always back off

              Sounds like Axle Tramp.
Too much power to the front wheels and/or not enough grip from the tyres.

Adding an Anti-lift Kit and put on stickier tyres to help lessen this or you could not stomp on the throttle on take off.

Oh yeah....that violent vibration like your whole bonnet is going to erupt. Happens when I try to accelerate hard on slippery road surface eg wet from the rain.
