GTI EPC/Engine failure light - new accelerator pedal

Hi all,

Has anyone experienced a lack of power followed by stalling in a MK 6 GTI? I've heard this isn't the first time it's happened in a Golf.
This happened about 3 weeks ago and since then the EPC light and engine light have been coming on and off. Called up the dealer and they have diagnosed the problem as a faulty part in the accelerator pedal. New pedal is on order from Singapore apparently....ETD 5 days+! Unfortunately no loan car as well....

No happy about it...but what can you do...thank god it's still under warranty...but not impressed that a $50K car needs to have this after just 1 year. Happy to hear thoughts...

It's unfortunate. Haven't heard of it being the accelerator pedal before, but it's possible...

Though I don't really understand your final comment. Please tell me a car over $50k which is built so well that it doesn't come with a warranty?
I mean, that's why you have a warranty, because things do and will fail... doesn't matter what brand.

I had the EPC light on my Golf R about 24 hours after picking it up, and the same thing happened, loss of power to the point that I couldn't get up the hill to my house.

In my case they originally thought it was to do with the throttle body (whatever that might be) but turned out that a bolt from the engine trim had gone into the turbo and shredded it, meaning a ful engine replacement.

It all got sorted out under warranty as you'd expect and I'm now enjoying the R again.

Hopefully nothing as serious for your Golf!

Mine had an EPC light twice over last week and was diagnosed today with faulty accelerator sensor. Will take 3 weeks to get from Germany as none in country. They saybit safe to drive, but I note it is different to drive and hiccups on gear change ..but it got better as it armed up (?). MY11 GTI

I hate to say it but the GOLF has not seemed perfect from the factory for a lot of people.

I mean, sure, my car gives me more enjoyment than the other cars I could have bought - but things like DSG gears slips, this light warning, and leaking doors appear to wreck the EURO ideal a bit, especially that these arenow acknowledged by a lot of people.

I had 4 WRXs and never had a problem with any of them (and the windows didnt blow your ear drums out when you had them down either) except in the 3G models a know issue is the rear detachable parcel tray blind thing gets a bit loose and rattles either being replaced or tightened to fix.

BUT on the flip side, some MY09 WRX were known to have spun bearing issues, which is pretty serious stuff. To Subaru's credit, they immediately issued a notice to all dealers for a full engine replacement if this happened.

The BMW 3series coupe we had also had a problem. (although only one ). They all seemed to have the pillar trim glue become weak and drop down the trim around the windows.

I have seen other poor sods who have had this happened to them in the 100K car.

My point?; all cars have their problems.

Even ultra reliable or really expensive ones.

I had a heap of trouble with an 01 Impreza RS, so Subaru aren't perfect either. Plus it was a design fault in the clutch that was never admitted by Subaru (but magically changed on the next model year).
