Manual GTI drivers -Which gear gives best 'push you to seat' experience?

Hi guys,
I've been showing my friends and family my new car, but I think I'm failing at demonstrating the GTi's accelerating abilities.

How do you get the best 'push-you-to-seat experience' - Is this done by going to second gear and flooring it to red-line? Or is there a better way? 5th gear dropping to 3rd and flooring it?

You had to start a thread to ask what gear to pull your GTI in, for them to be impressed by the acceleration?

im mearly trying to figure out which gear you'd get the most G-forces out of the GTI.
if you say there's none when theres more than one person in it - then just say so, no need for the haterade.

And this is how an accident starts off. Lots of passengers/distractions with you and next thing you know...

Having been a passenger in one of this type of accidents, I make it a point to only go at it when I am alone.

The quickest acceleration in most cars, not withstanding grip issues, is 1st gear.

However, I think what you're asking is something different. The GTI isn't "the fastest accelerating car" out there. Whilst 6.9 from 0 to 100 is quick if you can nail it, what is most impressive about the GTI is its "all-rounded-ness" and refinement. Because of this refinement, it can be rather difficult to demonstrate the potential of the car because when you're doing 80km/h, it feels like you're only doing 50km/h compared to many other cars. Therefore the "feeling" of out-right performance is just not there.

In addition, the GTI engine is based around a K03 turbo. It's efficiency is in torque from only 1700 all the way up to 5200rpm. Whilst it's peak power is from 5300 to 6200rpm, it drops off a lot by the rev limiter.

So what I'm saying is, the most impressive thing about it is how it pulls in 3rd gear at say 50 to 80 or something like that - but for out-right acceleration and for other people in the car "feeling" the full experience, I'm not sure it's really the car for that.

FWIW 2nd to redline is probably your best bet. If that's not enough then you may need a reflash. Or a new car.

If you want to impress your friends probably coasting in 3rd then dropping to 2nd and going to redline would probably 'make the most noise' and 'seem to give that explosive accelleration'

A mate took me for a ride when he got his new car, and wanted to show what it could do
He plowed into the side of another car at 80ks when he missed a giveway sign.
Airbags went off and he passed out for 15sec... felt like a lifetime....

Since then, I've turned down a few offers when mates wanted to show me their new car for this reason.

Certainly my intention is not to cause danger or harm to anyone. The reason why i bought a gti was not for its speed, but its for refinement and 'all-roundedness' as Corey_R mentioned.

I was thinking more along the lines of the latest Golf ad on tv, where the Golf driver was driving the roadside assistance mechanic. And the mechanic asked the driver to give it some gas - as a demonstration of its grunt power. Im asking how to best do that short burst.

And, yes ive noticed 3rd gear 50 to 80 is pretty good too.

I would just creep in first to around 30kms/h then nail it through second gear.. Best way in most cars.

I find 2nd gear the best to floor it. Flooring it on 1st gear just creates a ton of wheel spin. My car is slightly different, but overall it has good acceleration through all gears, especially 2nd.
