  • Blue Smoke?

Just had a huuge puff of blue smoke come out the pipes... chucked into N and revved it, and still smoke, but cleared. The car was warm, driven about 2 hours ago City - Hornsby and sat in the sun for a bit.

    Anyone?

Is it a diesel? MY GT Sport did this every now and then, no problems, just clearing out residue from the cat apparently.... but it is a diesel

Shouldn't the DPF stop that sort of thing in the GT?

I'm assuming the OP has a GTi from his username (but it would be nice to be sure)

Had you just started the car? Maybe a sensor is off and it briefly ran overly rich?

          It's a 118tsi.

The GTI is the MK2 in my avatar.

I had, but would this fault be logged?

Yeah the DPF makes a huge difference from a normal diesel but it does let out the occasional blue fart (and I mean really really rarely)

Mate I had a lance that did it once as well, it was nothing to worry about, however I would mention it at your next service

Running rich as far as I know would blow black fumes and the popping and flames (rotary trait). Therefore, bluish smoke would either mean oil and if it is white-ish... then one would look at coolant leaking into the cylinder(s).

I'm no mechanic... so please enlighten me if I am wrong.

Blue is oil... typically a sign of worn valve seals. Could also just be the whole oil breather mechanism dumping excess oil into the intake (common trait of the latest range of VW motors).

You'd be well advised to take it to a dealer for a compression test.
