  • Minor Problem - Golf R

Am loving the car but it has a few minor annoyances...
    1. The centre console (beneath the A/C, Radio stack) that you need to press to open, just wont close. I can't see how to get it apart so think a dealer trip might be in order unless someone else has had a similar experience.

    2. The rear washer nozzle leaks on to the back window at random intervals, this leaves a mess on the rear window.

I was hoping to avoid a trip to the VW dealer, so I'd be happy to hear from anyone that has any insight on how I can sort these myself.

Neil, I know for certain there is a TSB for the rear washer drips & a fix. The "ashtray" unfortunately is mostly plastic, so if it doesnt lock, it's probably busted

I have / had both those issues in my GTI.

With the centre console bit, I just keep pressing it closed and after a few attempts it just closes ....... and the issue does not come back for a while, very intermittant.

With the rear nozzle drip, seems to be every car. I had them "fix" it at the first service. It doesnt drip now, just pi$$es itself for no reason, especially on a hot day. But VW do have a fix, which didnt work on mine.

Ditto both probs on mine... although the console thing usually just takes a more careful effort in closing and it'll stay shut, sucky latch mechanism though.

        Random drips, yep!

LOL at another R thread, someone might chuck another spazz!

I only noticed item #1 if I had something in there that got in the way of the latch mechanism. Then got it stuck closed doing the same hehe. Don't have the other issue. Only thing I have that is mildly annoying is a rattle from both door trims. Obviously not annoying enough though as I haven't bothered to go back to the dealer. Oh and not enough power but I think you fixed that up good.

            Remove the shifter gaiter
Remove the shifter fascia (auto-Not sure about the manuals)
Undo the 2 torx screws at t he top of the hole
Unplug the 2 wires (Cigarette and ESP and any other switches)
            then remove the console.

There is a dealer fix for the dripping rear washer. My TSI had the same issue but it's all good now after a trip to the dealer.

I took mine in for the dripping washer and was told it didn't leak. Getting a service next week and it's back on their list of things to fix

Took the car to Norris Motor Group @ Kedron on Tuesday - they fixed the console whilst I waited - just a broken clip or something.

They are getting in parts for the rear washer - hopefully that'll sort it out.

                  Thanks for the replies.

Does anyone know how big a job the rear washer fix is? I thought i read somewhere they have to remove the rear spoiler.

Mine has only just started doing it today since it went in for a 1000km check over, i've never used the rear sprayer previously and had no issues with it but part of the check over included testing the washers. Now it will just randomly dribble, i'm hoping it will just stop itself.

I will find out in a couple of days when they call me to get the new bits installed and will let you know.
