  • Hole in front "Wheel Guard" Golf GTI

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone else as a small hole on the driver side engine/wheel guard?
So if you go the driver side wheel and look toward the front of the car do you see a hole?
The passenger side is covered up, im just wondering if something fell off or if it is normal.

If it fell off will VW fix the hole? Dont think it is anything serious but just looks weird now.

I got this on the passenger side. Probably hit a driveway too hard going up the gutter I think, noticed it about a month ago. The stock mk6 GTI sits heaps low at the front, even lower than the Golf R I believe.

Will get the vw service dept to have a look at it on the 15000km service, not too concerned about it. I can take a picture of it if you want to see if we are on the same page.

Yeah thanks skeep, i have the same hole but on the driver side. The "patch" must have fallen out over a speed hump or something.

Ill wait till the 15,000k service as well.

I have a cover where that hole is. Looks like yours dropped off when your car went over the driveway.

I've lost that cover too. My case I believe was driving through pouring rain with large lakes (sorry, puddles) as they were there prior to the driving.

Just cover it with 200mph tape until you're next service

No, the R sits lower at the front than the GTI. My driveway told me so even though I asked very, very slowly.

That is the access hole to change the bulb on the GTI (and I would imagine Type R cars too) fog lights. If the plastic cover is not properly set and secured in the hole, it will fall out. Several GTI owners here in the US have used a self-tapping screw to hold the cover in place.

If you have a warranty on your car, VW will replace the cover for you.

gti front wheel arch inner cover?

                  Hey guys,

I just got my car back from a getting a minor dent repaired in the hood and bumper - some idiot in a ute reversed into me whilst parking and scratched it deeply.

Anyway got it back - looks good as new, but i just noticed that there seems to be something missing from the inner front wheel arches - some kind of cover.

                  Heres a photo..

This oval hole could be normal, but ive had a quick look at other Mark VI GTIs and they seem to have some kind of cover over this. It makes sense - water will spray into the electrics of the park assist otherwise.

Could any Mark VI GTI owners with parking sensors take a quick look and see if they have a cover over this wiring? It would be much appreciated.

I imagine the panel beaters have forgotten to put the cover on when plugging the park assist back in after respraying the bumper.

                  Sigh.....

                  Cheers and thanks in advance...

                  JW

ok - seems like mine have fallen off too. Think the duct tape idea might be a good one. In terms of replacing those pads - anyone know how much they are? I'm guessing its a warranty job - bits shouldn't fall off really should they?

As I said, in my case it was warranty job (2 guards) – free of charge.
Not bad idea to secure it with duct tape

OK - tried a nearby VW dealer (mine is an hour away) and they didn't want to give me the covers on warranty, so I ended up buying them from their spare parts division. $8 each, probably cheaper than the petrol/wear and tear to drive to my actual dealer.

Apparently the covers have been redesigned so they don't fall off as much, but i secured mine with some black duct tape anyway.

I'm guessing even with all of VW's testing they didn't account for the bone jarring condition of aussie roads, probably the cause of the damn things falling out.

thanks for all your help guys....

I had the same problem with both fog light access covers missing at 15,000km service. Dealer said they must have been stolen... Which I questioned but he stayed very firm on. Was quoted $86 each cover to replace but they weren't in stock. I declined at this price.

                              Anyone have the part number?

I might go back again and say since there are quite a few it is a warranty issue. Wish me luck.

Actually based on more googling I suspect they quoted me on full new wheel arches.. (imbeciles).

The access cover parts number are
                              5K0 805 414 A (Right)
                              5K0 805 413 A (Left)

And popular opinion confirms they are around $5 - 6

                              This sounds reasonable
