So on retirement, after many years driving company provided Commodore, bought 2002Corolla. Excellent country service. Did have to have front wheel bearings replaced under warranty. Unremarkable transport

As finances improved, lashed out for 118TSI (MY11). a lot more fun to drive.

BUT tyre roar on local coarse chip bitumen roads only a bit less than Corolla. Will have to wait till tyre replacement time, so can fit quieter tyres. In fact, my daughters mkv Golf diesel trendline is quieter. Has michelin tyres.

      • After reading this thread what I can't get over is the time it takes for the ECU to get here... 4 weeks for a part? How big is this thing? It must be coming over by sea freight on a parts run from Germany. - NO DICE!

If it is small enough to be air freighted (ie less than 50KG) it should have been here 2 days MAX.

I would get onto VW australia about this point - how big is the item that is coming over to be replaced. 4 weeks for a component from a major company these days is ridiculous. I hope you have written a letter to VW australia. Phone calls don't count for much. They have to reply to a letter.

Could it be the fact that they have none in stock? - No chance... VW pumps hundreds of thousands of cars out each year.

I work in the medical imaging sector and if parts for a camera / xray machine need replacing and is in stock overseas, it is on next flight via fedex and we are talking large items - rings for CT scanners and xray tubes etc - 100's of kilos each.

        • Sorry Sea freight takes around 2months just like your new car.
I use Fedex & UPS from UK and Europe nearly every week on electronic and mechanical parts.
It can be anywhere from 3days to 8days.
The Fedex freight can stop in at least 4 places before it gets to Sydney.

          • Gee, I hope the problem is the ECU...what if the part gets here, they install it and the problem still doesn't go away?! For a quick test couldn't they swap in an ECU from another Mk6?

All ECU are not the same!

              • OK, people just read the thread before you post the same question or answer what was already answered. Better still, give the OP 1 months to come back with the update, in the mean time do not post, since you're repeating yourself.

As I posted in the other thread, the information you are talking about is not relevant as it along applies to goods purchased after 1st Jan 2011.

We should instead be encouraging people to contribute to the forum, granted in a more accurate manner (its the internet so that's tough), rather than bagging someone.

It is all good. I wasn't sure where he was, I thought my disclaimer where I said "assuming you are in NSW" would have covered me, but I guess not. And yes, I did read the whole thread, but I forgot he was from QLD. My apologies.

Here is similar information for QLD Consumer refund rights : Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation
                            In Particular:

When am I entitled to a refund, repair or exchange?

As a consumer, you are legally entitled to a refund, exchange or repair from the place of purchase if goods you purchase:

                            * have a fault you did not know about when you bought it
                            * are not the same as the seller or advertisement described
                            * don´t do the job you were led to believe they would - well you obviously can't drive it!
                            * don´t match the sample
                            * don´t last a reasonable amount of time, given the price you paid.

                            and for your warranty:

Consumer rights on warranties : Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation

All goods and services have a statutory warranty.

As a minimum, all retailers, services providers and manufacturers must ensure that:

                            * their goods and services are suitable for the purpose for which they are sold
                            * products are not faulty
                            * they perform services to an appropriate standard
                            * all samples match the products they sell
                            * they honour warranties
                            * they make spare parts available for a reasonable time (only a court can decide what is a reasonable time, on a case-by-case basis).

The trader you bought the product from must help you fix the problem. They must organise an exchange or refund, or negotiate with the manufacturer on your behalf.

If you believe you are entitled to a statutory warranty refund, you should:

                            * stop using the product immediately
                            * notify the appropriate person of the problem in person or in writing
                            * take your receipt when returning the faulty product to the trader
                            * ask for a receipt if you leave the product with trader for assessment
                            * tell the trader you would like a refund
                            * ask the trader to set a date for a proposed solution.

Call fair trading, get a refund. Fair trading don't care if you buy a $10 t-shirt or a $50,000 car, your rights are still the same.

And to all the people saying "just wait, be patient", he could have and should have lodged his complaint when he first got frustrated with the issue. He could have always cancelled or put his case on hold had a resolution been forthcoming. Now he has to wait a few more weeks while fair trading process his application.

Like the OP said, once they have your cheque, they aren't your friend any more. I am having a situation where I was told go away and the salesman hasn't returned any of my calls or emails despite numerous requests.

You are the only person who will look after you.

                            • Thank you again for trying to help.

But again, even though you're now pasting from the QLD site, you are missing one key piece of information...
Goods and services not covered by consumer guarantees : Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation

Consumer guarantees do not apply to goods that:

                              * were bought before 1 January 2011 (these are covered under previous laws)
The consumer DOES NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO DEMAND A REFUND under the old laws. It's the retailers choice to repair, exchange, refund.
Even with the new laws, it'll be interesting the first time there is a dispute with something such as a car. It also depends on what is the definition of major fault. For example, is needing to replace the ECU (a tiny little computer) in a car a major fault, or is it only a major fault when you need to replace the entire engine etc?

In any case, that is not the topic of this thread, and the information you have provided, whilst useful to other people, is not applicable to this thread. Cheers.

                              • Hi Guys,

Due to the QLD flood, I didn't have chance to post my latest update.

11/Jan/2010 Morning, I got two SMS from VW dealer

[Just a short note to inform you that your vehicle: xxxxxx is ready for pickup. The total invoice amount is 0.00]
[Urgent Text Regarding Flooding, Hi XXX, Please Collect your car from xxx VW before 11.30amas the service dept will be flooded by 12.30, cannot accept any responsibility for any cars left here]
                                ----------------------------------
Well. Great news, Hope its all fixed without rush.

Didn't have chance to test out vehicle, been runing around 250KM so far without error.

Seems my 118TSI had many bits and pieces replaced (as a new car perspective).
Hope all the parts will last years and not causing more problems before or after warrenty!

I have attached the Worksheet and Parts list.
