i do the same... have a fold-up picnit mat that i deploy when necessary.

no need to baby the car - it's mine after all! i'm not going to go all ocd about preserving the boot for the next owner.

Only the problem with that mat is that it will smell like hell for a very long time. I bought it a year ago and removed it from the Tiguan next day, left it outside and 12 months later it still had a bad rubber odor. I wasted $40.

we had a similar experience with cheap rubber floor mats too. had to spray the mats with an expensive deoderant (the foam type you use on carpet) and let it soak in for a few hours. the smell went away after about 2-3 years?

Odd.. never had an issue with it.. was it the gray or Black mat..?

It was black, exactly the same as in the link, but I bought it from Repco.

methinks the Black ones are worse than the grey and the Supercheap ones dont seem to cary any odour

I'm not complaining about the price. I just wanted to know what retail was. I thought it was 180 and my dealer was doing it for 178... a huge $2 discount.

I will probably go with it as i don't want split milk or any other nasty smell impregnating the car if shopping gets damaged. Even if you get it really clean, on some hot days when the conditionds come together you'll still smell cheese or fish or whatever......

Not sure if you've experienced this but if you have a party and some nasty b@stard spews in the corner of your room on the carpet and you clean it up (professionally even) years fdown the track you'll walk in the room and you'll get that not so nice parmesan smell....

I don't want that in my car... not worried about next owner...

Mate, the missus left a 2 litre bottle of milk in my last car and the lid wasn't screwed down.. I had to remove the entire interior wash it down with vinegar and baking soda, let it dry out for 2 days and then get it professionally cleaned.. this then took another 3 months for the odor to subside.. I get it.. but the answer for me was to put a boot box in and anthing that can spill goes in there .. no negotiation.. it is a sore point in our house

well i got the hard rubber boot liner. it's pretty flimsy and you wonder what your paying for. But no spilt milk will be stinking up my car....

Thanks to this thread I ended up buying a grey boot liner from sca. This saved my boot from some spilled milk.

lucky man, I spilled milk in the back of my Liberty and had to rip out the entire interior to mop it up from the sub floor and then get pros in to steam clean it.. the smell was really bad. I recommend you get a boot storage cube from SCA as well. they are collapsible but I throw anything that may have a tendency to leak in there as it keeps it uprigtht. I also have a towel in the bottom of it to absorb anything that may leak.. I call it the triple condom effect

i got the foam boot liner when i bought my car, been a year and 22k km, i carry lots of stuff in the back, cleaning chemicals, soft drinks, oils, food stuffs.
its been super durable, no tears or holes and still in great shape. i put heavy stuff on it as well and it has not left any marks. i would recommend any mat and the foam is acceptable
