Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    • Boost Gauge for Mk6 GTi

      Guys

Has anyone managed to find and fit a good looking (unobtrusive) Boost Gauge to their Mk6 GTi ?
I have found an awesome one out of the US but as it's designed to fit in the driver side air vent, it isn't suited to right hand drive cars as it comes "angled" to the driver and is supplied with the newly modified left hand vent.

It is here: Mk6 2.0T Vent Mounted Boost Gauge Kit

Anyone seen something good for us aussie's ?

Have a look at their web site and check the quality of the work they do.

Cost delivered and paid for via Paypal $668.00 Aust dollars.

Make sure they know you have the K04 not the K03 but if you get it for the price on their website that is considerably cheaper than any of the locally sourced alternatives

              It fits both.

              • Are you sure? Their site only mentions K03 and doesn't mention anything about compatability with any K04 model (inc Pirelli / ED30 in the MKV pages, or audi S3 etc).
Also, did you select the ceramic coating option to prevent rust? Or are you planning to paint the exhaust yourself? Or just not bother?

Edit: Whilst 42DD's site doesn't mention anything about K04 model compatibility, I've found documentation which states that the K03 and K04 turbo flange are the same. However, I'd still be concerned about fitment to the R as it has a drive staff in that area that the GTI's don't. Did they confirm that it will fit on the Audi S3 and Golf R (since as stated, their site makes no mention).

I have been talking with 42DD so will let you know soon on outcome. Worth a try for the cost.

                  • Yeah - it's a fantastic price, but their FAQ explains how they get there. Even they state that if they built it the way their other "high quality" competitors did, that it'd cost the same as their products. All they warn about is to make sure compare it to high quality products, not crap companies.

So what I mean is, 42DD offer an "off the shelf" product with workmanship quality that you could expect from other off the shelf companies such as Milltek and APR. But by using aluminised steel and things like that, they can make it (their words) for a third of the price.

Keep in mind, that you'll still need a Stage II software upgrade to take full advantage of this product, and also to stop the car from throwing CEL errors.

I appreciate all the good advice.

Has anyone found anything suitable for fergus?

The only thing suitable that I've found is the OSIR Design products.
                        OSIR Design USA-OSIR - O-Pod Dual - Gloss Black Carbon - VW MkV/VI
                        OSIR Design USA-OSIR - O-Pod Dual - Black Satin - VW MkV/VI
                        OSIR Design USA-OSIR - O-Pod Mono Vent Pod - RHD - VW Mk6

Of course, all three of those products are just gauge holders and don't actually include any gauges.
I would presume that you would then get the gauge(s) of your choice from somewhere like 42 Draft Designs - VDO Gauges. But the senders and LEDS are not included in them either.

There are also a range of pods, gauge kits, and parts, from ECS Tuning

Has anyone else got any suggestions for fergus?

Edit: Noticed that a member is selling a defi controller and gauge setup on our forums...

                        • GTech-Pro Performance Meter

I expressed my interested here in ordering one of the GTech Pro Performance Meters, like Fab_R has. Shipping is quite expensive though, so if anyone was also thinking of getting one, follow that post. If I get one, it'll be in the new few days...

If I was getting one I would go for something like this one

                            Offset Steering Column Gauge Pod
                            Tiguan 162TSI Highline Indium | R-Line pack | DAP | Tow pack |
                            Octavia 2012 vRS | TDI | White | DSG | Tow pack |

                            • Best looking Mk6 Gauge

                              Corey

Check this one out: P3Cars.com // VW MK6 DIgital Interface

I think it is the best one I have seen so far but is very very expensive (if all you want to get is boost pressure). Certainly the most unobtrusive.

                              • Heh, yeah, it is up there in price. Also, no mention (or at least I didn't come across it) of RHD compatability. But it does intergrate nice. But I'm not sure whether it'd get that instead of a dial based gauge.
