Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

If you're gonna buy from O/S just goto Ross-Tech direct. Otherwise get one from Tim or another local reseller.

I'm considering just getting a cheap 3rd party cable and buy the license for VCDS-Lite. It's just that since I'm going to only use it once, that's quite a bit to pay. I'm now also looking to see the possibility of selling it off and at what price after I'm done with it to recoup some cost, just that I realised the software license is non-transferable.

If you only need a single use, why not just ask a local with a cable for help coding your car, in exchange for a 6-pack?

                    • thank you crazyray.
I hadn't noticed the recess on the height adjuster lever. VW had intended to put something there, or might be from different model that does have an emblem.

                        • Due to my paranoia that someone is going to step on my door sill and scratch it bad, I've begun to look for door sill protectors.

Dropped in at Bayside Volkswagen and made an order for the clear door sill, costed me $120. Will pick it up soomewhere this week, will take photos.

                          • damn.... That's quite a lot!
Unless there is something special about these clear door sill protectors that I'm missing, you'd be better off calling a place which does Paint Protection Film installations and asking for some "door sill sized" off cuts that you could buy... they'd probably charge you $5 for that...

                            • I guess I'm paying for the VW branded packaging.

Should have asked you first for the tip, my intelligence is a suspect.

well worth being paranoid, the Black was 10 days old, my wife borrowed it, came back after shopping with twirl scratch from sand on the bottom of her shoe. Driver side so every time i get in I'm reminded 'never lend the R'. trouble with that concept, my wife LOVES the R too.
VW has Carbon Fibre sills for about $275 each....
