Apparently there will be Bluemotion variants of many models across the range, any idea when the Polo Bluemotion will make to our shores? Looking at 3.3L/100km I believe, awesome.

I had one of these as a rental in the UK for a couple of weeks last year. It was OK to drive, but the large gap between gear ratios with the 5 spd manual was annoying given it's lack of torque off boost. Following the shift indicator had it off boost in the next gear. Can you get it with the 7 spd DSG?

The auto stop/start was OK, but on cold mornings and with headlights on it was only able to use it occasionally. I wonder how useful that feature is going to be in summer as no engine = no air-con.

I averaged 55mpg for a mix of motorway and city driving and I wasn't driving for economy either.

Test drove one yesterday (I didnt drive it, my fiance did, its for her).

They look great, better than any non-GTi/R model. with the exception of the wheel choice but VW have their reason's for that.

very comfy (its a golf).

fuel economy was absurd.

start/stop feature is freaky, but cool. works very well.

have a few idea's in mind for some alterations.

1. Tint (not through VW)
2. Retrofit RNS510, MDI, Bluetooth (not through VW).

Has anybody else driven one/bought one?

Golf Bluemotion Price & Questions

Hi All. I am new and this is my first post. I apologies if it is in the wrong place or some one has posted a similar thread. I was after the Golf GTI 35 before, but they had been sold out and it is a bit higher than my budget. Then I saw the Golf Bluemotion. I was impressed with the same look as a normal Golf and the unique cloth trim. VW is doing drive away sale now, which ends this month. I have a few questions and I am sorry if some of them are dumb.

1) Do i have to have the car delivered by the end of the month to be able to enjoy the promotion discount?
2) With the promotion, how much more can I bargain the $28990 drive away price? Anyone purchased one that does not mind sharing their price?
3) How it is compared to a normal Golf, are they still fun to drive?
4) I have never driven a manual before and I learnt the way to drive it from the internet, shall I attend a few hours of classes before driving the new car?

Hi, welcome to the forum. As I have not personally driven a Bluemotion, I can only help answer some of your questions that you have raised there.

1) Yes, you have the have the car delivered by the end of the month for the driveaway deal
2) You should do a search here, there's another thread on how much people have paid for their golfs. Not sure how many actually bought a Bluemotion though.
3) If you were after a GTI Ed35 before, this Bluemotion will be very different in the driving stakes. The GTI Ed35 is a performance model running a petrol engine with way more power and a stiffer suspension setting, whereas the Bluemotion is focused on fuel economy and has a diesel engine tuned for economy. I dunno how you can compare these two as they have two very different focuses. If you are after relatively strong performance with great fuel economy, maybe you should take a look at the GTD instead.
4) The short answer is YES. You can't master how to drive a manual just by watching some videos... And the Bluemotion is a diesel you have to shift earlier compared to a petrol. You should at least borrow/rent a car with manual to have some practice before you actually drive one.

From what I can tell though, it doesn't seem like you know what you are after. I think you should ask yourself what your priorities are, so that you know what to look for when you go in for a test drive. Hope this helps.

It's a battle between my wife and me. To me, driving a fast auto car might have the same fun as driving a slow manual car, it will also make my wife happy

Hi borepig. Welcome to the forums. I merged your thread with this one because it was already listed in the MK6 Index thread and there is very little discussion on the Bluemotion, so may as well keep it together. Thus far, no one has really stated what they've been able to get the car for, so I can't really advise if there is much margin on the "free on roads" prices, but I doubt it. The free onroads is giving you well over 10% discount already, and those costs aren't "free", VAG and your dealer are just paying them to the logistics companies, the RTA, the insurance company, the NSW gov, and the Federal Gov, for you....

As for your switch from the GTI Ed 35 to the Bluemotion. I agree somewhat with MkVIGTI here, except I'd emphasis it even further by saying this. You literally cannot pick two more polarising models within the Golf range. The GTI Ed 35 has enough power and torque to keep the front wheel spinning (with ESP off) into 2nd (or 3rd in the wet), whereas the Bluemotion is the less powerful Golf there is. Beyond that, handling, ride, features, all are at the opposite ends of the scale too.

As for the topic of driving away in a manual - if you are on a probationary license still, you can't drive a manual unless you took the test in a manual. Additionally, I know people who have drived for 20 years and never driven a manual, and have someone try and teach them, and they just can't do it. I know other people who jump in and get it straight away. You really don't want to be finding out which category you fall into when you're driving (or trying to drive) your new car out of the dealership driveaway!

You should try and drive a manual first, as I don't think it will give you the same level of enjoyment as a GTI

1) That's what the terms of the sale are. You might be able to negotiate a few days depending on dealer. There were a few in stock around the place, and as they don't have any factory options except for metallic paint, depending on which colour you go for, you should be able to find one in stock.
2) Looking at about 28500 for the car with metallic paint, MDI, space saver spare (doesn't come with a spare), mats, boot liner, cargo net...
3) Haven't driven a non diesel Golf, but the Bluemotion runs pretty smoothly and quietly, and makes short work of hills. Seems pretty ideal as a daily commuter car.
4) I'd choose a cheaper car (or big empty car park) to learn.
