  • Mine behaves as genuinely as you'd expect. The cheap China ones are fakes (although I'm sure the pictures show a different UI on screen anyway), the ones around $950-$1250 from UK/Europe are what you're looking for.

    • RNS-510/Columbus came with our new Yeti. Compared to our 2yr old TomTom XL 340, I'm not impressed. Cost wise, the RNS-510 map upgrades at retail of $199 cost more than the TomTom. Still have to clarify how "up-to-date" our maps are and if there are any free upgrades, but so far I think Skoda Whereis 5.1 is current. (VW Whereis is up to V18.)

      RNS-510 Cons:
      * the maps appear badly out of date - worse than the 2yr old TomTom (has free mapshare updates)
      * missing private roads - eg shopping centre carparks
      * no GPS speed
      * no spoken distances
      * no spoken streetnames
      * only one voice
      * few POIs
      * hard work to add custom POIs How to: RNS-510 Speed Camera locations on the Map Display
      * progress POI search results needs manual intervention to view
      * harder to see than TomTom mounted on windscreen

      RNS-510 Pros:
      * integration with MFD
      * voice control
      * compass
      * big screen
      * optional multiple routes to choose

      Will have to do more side-by-side comparisons of maps and directions.

          skoda uses exactly the same maps as vw. both vw & skoda r upto version 5.1 (v18 in whereis/sensis terms).

          u forgot to mention these as a pro.
          - built-in hdd
          - climate control integration
          - dvd player with optional seperat feed for headrest screens (if fitted)
          - optional connectivity to mdi, tv tuner, rvc
          - phone integration (if fitted with bluetooth)

          i'm sure the above have been mentioned previously, at various points, in this discussion thread.

          the rns510 is nowhere near class-leading when it comes to navigation, but as an "allrounder", it sure is up there.

              Hey Ryan, who did you buy your RNS510 from and who did the install? cheers

              • Installation is easy to do yourself, just need to buy/borrow a VCDS cable (assuming you have a portable PC (laptop)).

                I just did an eBay search and picked one from the UK for around the price others were paying (around $1000-$1200)

                Something like this:
                OEM Volkswagen VW RNS510 RNS 510 sat nav version F 40GB LED DVD GPS Golf Passat | eBay
                That one is setup with USA maps though, so find one that does Australia.

                        • What's the dealer cost now of an rns510?

                          I'm sure I paid $2k for it for my polo. The dealer took the standard RSC unit in part exchange.

                          • I'm selling a genuine RNS-510 from my Skoda, works perfectly. I replaced the headunit with an 8" Alpine unit so it's not longer needed.

                            PM if interested, I'm in Melbourne
