Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Optical Parking System Golf R

Did a search but now I'm just confused. Can someone quickly explain what is the optical parking system? Is it

    A. A display on the RCD510 that display the front and rear parking sensor information or

    B. Is it the system that parks the vehicle for you whilst you just regulate the speed of the vehicle with the accelerator and clutch.

Just confused after seeing the Golf brochure talk about the second option

Disregard just answered my own question. I believe the system I'm confusing this with is the park assist system...Is this available in Australia?

Park assist is available in Australia, and when you get it not only do you get the front sensors factory installed but it also includes the automatic dip of the passenger door rear view mirror when selecting reverse in order to make the kerb easier to avoid.

Just the front and rear sensors, with the optical display system on the R standard. I dont know If you can get the reverse park assist on the R, cause it is the sports model.

You can't get the park assist on the R from what I'm lead to believe.

            And yes, A is correct.

Although anyone with a 3 door care to confirm if the image on the display is a 3 door one? haha

Park assist not available on the R.
Optical parking system is standard on the R and is as you describe in A.

I've still not used the Park Assist function at all in 5000KM..

However the front and rear sensors, dipping passenger mirror and optical parking display on the Nav gets used everyday.

Worth $1500? - you bet your ass it was.

+1. Also love the camera. The Park Assist has been getting some use lately from Mrs cme2c. especially after some coaching at the Volkswagen driver training at Eastern Creek.
