Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Get real? Why does an 8-10 year old disc display info but one bought about a month ago not?

Does it matter? That's why I said "get real" Are you going to boycott or complain to CD manufacturers about it?

          • Depends on who made the disc I guess. Not many CD players display CDText so it's not a big deal for some studios/manufacturers.

And look at the way people use CDs. They seem to rip them to their PC and load on the MP3 players. The PC/Mac downloads the track titles and artwork so it doesn't need the CD TEXT info.

Why do you "need" the track title in the car? You are most likely listening to the same CDs for the last 12 months

              • Another GOOD thing I found:
                - Pressing the mute button (I don't have voice control) on my steering wheel also pauses the MP3 music that's playing on the internal HDD media (on RNS510)... haven't confirm if this is the case with SD Card and/or on RCD510... but it's a good thing that if you mute the music to do something, you will resume where you were when you're finished with it.

Of course you'll miss stuff on radio though - can't pause radio broadcoast - RNS510 is not a PVR. (but hey, that's an idea for next generation of RNS510 perhaps?)

                • PVR? Wouldn't you mean a PAR?

                  • You're right, in the case of a car audio should be PAR as PVR = Personal Video Recorder...

but if the car has a DTV tuner installed, then... a PVR it is! LOL

FYI, "Mute" pauses all sources in the Media submenu - CD/DVD, SD Card, HDD, MDI.

                      • Yeah... it did that on the MKV with the previous versions of the VW head units too!
It's great that you all think it's cool though

"Dat mute button really was eine gut idea, Klaus. Have anozer beer un me"

I'm of German descent myself, so hopefully no-one is offended of that awful impression

                            • Found a bit of a weird thing this this arvo (well to me anyway)
Just used the Duragloss leather conditioner from car care products for the first time (very impressed, gotta love that smell)
Ayway....I had lifted the two front head restraints to wipe under them and after pushing the button to lower them back down,
I noticed for the first time that the drivers side button is facing the passengers seat, but the passengers seat button is facing
passenger door instead of facing the drivers seat? Assume you all have the same?

                              • I think they do not have to be symmetrical... does it matter?
doing it that way enable people to swap driver and passenger head restraints , does not affect safety at all, cheaper for production too because VW does not have to produce two version of head rest for each side, they just make one version.
