Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • I guess the cable that links the lever to the release mechanism isn't on properly. I'd get the dealer to have a look at it (assuming they can open the bonnet to fix the problem)
Some say he was the Stig... all we know is that he drives a VW Transporter.

yes please, without having to option the leather interior and then the optional adjusting drivers seat base.

still struggling for a comfortable seating position.

        The Weird
        - Washed my car for the first time this morning, wanted to get under the hood to check for leaves. Can't open bonnet, I think it is stuck! Pulled the bonnet lever close to 90 degrees (around 70-80) up. Did it as manual suggested. Anyone having had this issue? Can't find any posts re this.
Bonnet may not open if the wipers are in service position (upright) - consult your manual what is this service position basically Key ACC, press down on wiper once and the wiper will go up.

        or the vice versa,
Wiper won't operate if bonnet is not closed properly. Same with rear wipers won't operate if hatch is not closed properly.

That was according the dealer during new owner introduction night

have you tried pushing down on the bonnet?
I've not had to do this on modern cars, but on previous cars, it was a 2man job to open the bonnet
(one to pull the lever while theother pushes down on the bonnet)

Having driven many examples of both setups from about 1918 on (and even a few earlier than that), I can vouch that the change made sense.
During the early 70's all the Jap cars I owned had floor mounted accelerators and my '77 Golf was the first car I owned with a top mounted accelerator and what a mongrel it was, with a heavy spring and being too far off the floor even for a person with big feet. Since then I have only had top mounted Jap cars again until this new Golf. I have no preference one way or the other - they both work well if set at the right angle, height and weight.

                  Yes tried that too Mr_Bob.
I'll have to wait till Tuesday to contact my dealership.
It's surprising how such a little 'issue' is pissing me off!
Really uncomfortable knowing there's something not quite right about your brand new 40k car...yea plus it's other irritable characteristics mentioned (countless time) on this forum - the tinny rattling noise and gearbox.

                      • Noticed that "50" indicator on the speedo is marked red, and as well as "30" indicator...

ok, "50" is most build-up area speed limit in VIC, (and most other states) when there's no speed limit sign,
                        but what about "30" ??
why not "40" for most school zones?

                        weird?

oh and just noticed my wive's RAV4 also had 30 and 50 marked in red... Aust Design Rule requirement?

30 & 50 km/h are common urban area speed limits in Europa.

                              Maybe this can help:

Speed limits by country - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

plus - 30km/h: local streets, school zone etc (at least Germany, Austria ....)

                              • Surprising that Germany has a lower standard speed yet has the unrestricted Autobahn, then again, they have ice and snow during winter.
