Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Pressing unlock twice to open all the doors is a security feature which can be disabled in the MFD Settings. Have a look in the manual for the details.

I've never found it hard to locate the ignition at night time, since the whole car interior lights up so well. Maybe it's because of the the colour of my seats and trim.

..and to be really picky..the fact it needs to run on 98 ron.

Otherwise I'm enjoying it. No regrets with my purchase at all
      I agree with everything quoted.

On auto wipers, my first MkVI was just fine, but my new one is positively psychotic. Sometimes they behave OK, but usually that is short lived and they suddenly start sweeping at breakneck speed. It's a problem because by that stage there is so little water on the screen between sweeps that the wipers drag and shudder their way across the glass. Resetting them will usually just start the same process over. Maybe an enquiry to my dealer is in order.

No light around the ignition; never had a problem getting it in until last night (must be falling testosterone levels, if you know what I mean). I do think that sort of thing should be standard in this day and age though.

Water dripping in wouldn't be a problem if I had one of those lovely reversing cameras, and at least 98 RON is clean as far as Au fuels go.

      All told though, great car.

I don't mind the feature, I have it on my Grand Voyager. It is just you have to press very quickly in comparison to my GV. I wouldnt have minded another 20 milliseconds to hit it a second time

I noticed they were adjustable on the R; is it really so that they do not adjust on the GTI?

You'd still have to lift up the hatch anyway, no? Otherwise it can be unlocked from inside . . .

          Amen to that!

It would also be nice if VW would delete the front number plate holder (not found on lesser Golfs) and add a tilt adjustment to the driver's seat.

They're adjustable on the GTI too.
I can only imagine that Maltopia means that they can't "fold down" or something so that they don't block the view out the rear when you don't have rear passengers...

I've had exactly the same thought, and for a while there I was worried that there was something wrong with my GTI. First week or so, my head was repeatedly jerking backwards against the headrest, but now no more. And I miss it.

But I'm sure there's not a change in the actual performance, it's just that I am used to it now, and probably a little more controlled with the right foot as well.

              Has anyone else experienced this?
Good to see I'm not the only one.

maybe time for the "upgrade" , I like the "kick"

hehe - thats where it starts Flappa, and before you know it, you have an empty wallet and a car thats almost undrivable on the road.

                Been there.

I was initialy a bit disapointed in the performance, but I'm getting used to enjoying the handling now instead - although I should have gone the R - there is nothing quite as frustrating a dropping a wheel off the inside of a corner and giving it the berries only to have it not go anywhere because of wheelspin. Bloody FWDs! I've had to unlearn everything I knew about driving and start from scratch.
                Its here!

Nah - it's not possible with a Golf. As I'm sure you'll all read in the http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/f112...nge-49481.html very soon, even a 275kW/521Nm+ GTI is very driveable

For the sake of the Forums , mine shall remain stock . . . FOR EVER.

Gotta admit , if the R had been available at the time , I may have just gone that way myself. Next time.

Same here, especially for the price I paid - I could have had a pretty well optioned R. But I don't regret a thing. I've been enjoying my beastie for almost a full year now while most R aficionados are still waiting for theirs. Although come the end of the year there will be a whole group of new people happy to rub their all-pawed big-turbo'd R in my face.

Thats ok, just challange them to the next motorkhana in your area - nothing quite as funny as the look of frustration on an AWD drivers face while trying to keep up with "slower" RWDs turning on the throttle and FWDs pulling handbrake turns around the flags.

                            The Good
                            - Noticed that the fuel indicator on the dash has a little arrow to tell you which side the fuel cap is on

                            The Bad
                            - Already touched in other threads.

                            The Weird
                            - Washed my car for the first time this morning, wanted to get under the hood to check for leaves. Can't open bonnet, I think it is stuck! Pulled the bonnet lever close to 90 degrees (around 70-80) up. Did it as manual suggested. Anyone having had this issue? Can't find any posts re this.

                            • Usually you pull the black lever near the accelerator pedal until, and then you slide your hand under the bonnet near the middle and there's another little handle in there to pull. I'm assuming you've already tried this though.

                              • Yup tried that, having pulled the lever there's not 'thud' reaction and the bonnet doesn't 'pop' up that 1 inch to let me slide my fingers thru. The bonnet is still flush.
