Candy White Paint Codes (plural)

I have two candy white Golfs, both MY10, with paint codes LB9A and B4B4 respectively. Anybody know what gives with the two different paint codes?

(Mods, I posted this in the Bodywork forum, but as it isn't as active as this section, I've since double posted. Feel free to delete one if appropriate)

I'm not sure to be honest, but NADCOM questions come up regularly. Maybe we should start a thread about it and all its codes? hehe

Hmm. That's surprising. I thought Mk4 onwards were all B4B4 Candy Weiss. When i got the Mk1 resprayed the only paint code was B4B4. And that was for Mk4, Mk5 Golf and the new Polo at the time. The Caddys were also available in B4B4. But that's the only code i'd ever heard of.

Are you sure LB9A is not a different white? Maybe "offroad white" or something?

Actually, there are enough references to LB9A being candy white around the interwebs to think that it may have been the correct code for a while. These don't even mention B4B4:

Paint Codes for VW

There are heaps... do a google on "VW LB9A".
Similarly, B4B4 does also return results too...
So my guess is that B4B4 is an updated "new formula" version of the Candy White paint.

That'd make a good sticky somewhere. Or maybe a forum wiki type thing with all the FAQ's would be better cos I think most would tend to only look in a couple sub forums (myself only this Golf one and the new Polo).

I agree with coreying, the Mark V and VI is defiantly LB9A - Candy White.

And a search of VW's chemical materials lists for "candy white" comes back with only paint code B9A in sizes 18ml, 300ml, 9ml and 150ml (first two have clear coat bundled with them and are touch up applicator and spray can in that order)

I made a slight error in my original post, not that that alters anything significant. The cars are *build* years '09 and '10, both being MY10s and otherwise identical but for the addition of MDI in the latter. I only noticed the paint code difference when I saw that there is now a VIN sticker inside the front passenger door (unlike the '09 build). I thought I'd buy some touch up paint for when the inevitable comes, and there it was: paint code B4B4 instead of LB9A as on the other car. There's no obvious difference in shade or finish when the cars are parked side by side either.

B9A is the mix code for a panel shop to match. B4B4 is a Volkswagen retail code (similar to option codes)

B9A and B4B4 are the same paint. Just different codes for different uses!
