    Good grief
Is a VW golf so fragile?
Are we back in the (Just) post war years, with nit picking re "Oils arn't Oils" ?
More important, why buy a rather expensive item compared to a cheaper (Oriental) alternative, and
then become concerned "How to drive it!" ? On the track as a racing car? OK. But going to work? Oh Boy, already a bundle of nerves?
Either a product is reliable (And that is what the warranty is for) or not.
Forget walking on egg's. Just enjoy the product. BUT STOP TRYING TO TURN IT INTO BOY RACER.

R Owners - you'll notice that LC won't engage when the oil temp is 100deg or higher too, took me ages to work that one out...

I agree with that. While it is good to observe oil temp and be careful, I believe it's not as detrimental as some people think.

My 1.8T is now almost 10 years old, the previous owner I know always drove short trips and never really warmed up the car. For the 2 years I drove it (hardish, with a chip), it doesn't always get warm up due to the short 12 min freeway run that occasionally involve throttle to get into traffic when car is still 70deg ish (coolant). The engine never used any oil, the throttle body is clean and there is very very little in the catch can.

What I think is more important if you don't always warm up the car is more frequent change of oil.

Anyway, I'm no physicist or engine builder, but from my experience, oil temp, while important, is not the be all end all of looking after an engine.

Interesting but the demo I had certainly didn't! I was still using LC with the oil temp at 104deg. Haven't found myself in the same situation with my own R

Hmmm... maybe just mine then! Definitely happens right on 100, 99 it's fine, 100 - no LC!

              Mine is an MY11.5, yours?

You aren't the first person I have heard say that Beena. Problem is, terms such as "100" and "LC" are too short to search on so I can't find who and where...

I have raised it once before, but have had the same issues searching for it!

I'm happy to test it out again, but I'm up in Syd this week. I'll be at Sandown next week so oil temp should be right up there. Won't be hard to verify. The car I did it in before was a demo from the first shipment last may/june, though I doubt that would make a diff.
