The first thread gained no results. The 2nd thread the person had already come up empty handed so was wondering whether they could use a MK6 GTI exhaust.
You may have to go "custom made" - but I personally don't think it's worth the risk or potentially spoiling your car with the random results of a custom exhaust.
Don't be put off by people saying that an exhaust designed by a reputable shop would be detrimental, some shops in Sydney do work for race / rally cars, so clearly know what they are doing.
Someone has to make the exhausts for APR and the like before they whack on their margin and onsell.

This is exactly what the problem is :p
Race cars don't have to worry about cabin noise and day to day livability. Unless you ARE another business looking to have an exhaust mass produced to be resold, custom exhaust builders usually don't spend the weeks of research, testing, sound measurements, and multiple prototypes etc on every single exhaust they make. So whilst these custom exhaust shops often know how to get a good deal of extra performance out of the aftermarket exhausts they make, they are not too concerned (if at all) with tailoring each exhaust to ensure the sound in the interior meets the individual requirements of each make and model. So unless you actually like drone, avoid them
That's a good options, thanks rennenhaus. Since the Milltek is a "mass produced" exhaust like the APR and Oettinger exhausts, you can "audition" one installed in a Golf before purchasing it, and be confident in what the results will be
Custom is not bad at all, if you know where to go and stipulate your desired outcome, you can good good results. Off the shelf, hmm Mk6 GTI sounds like every other Mk6 GTI with the APR RSC (Sounds like **** imo)....boring
I'd take Ian's advice and use the Milltek Mk5 GT system though, available through him

BS. Unless you're prepared to live with drone and other undesirable elements that a custom exhaust creates OR you have deep pockets to have it remade many times you won't be happy with the result.

If boring is an exhaust that performs well and is as quiet as the stock one when driving normally then I guess yeah it's boring. The RSC technology is great IMO and well worth the money.

Ta for the input Mav
I got loud, and I got drone with custom. I ddn't care because at that point in time it was no real disservice/discrepancy to me.
And yes APR on 2.0T's sounds like ****.....but people about ultimate gains won't be going for off the shelf. They'll be going custom for their "perfomrs well". It has it's place...but it's APR this, APR that...sometimes it just doesn't need to be so
I don't know... but to me someone who is out there for ultimate performance doesn't usually buy the Golf in the first place. There are other more suitable options from Renault etc. You get the Golf because it offers performance and refinement etc. To me at least, it sounds counter-intuitive to then lose the refinement to get a performance increase from the exhaust which still won't match the performance of those other cars in stock trim.
Also, the OP has a 118TSI, so "ultimate performance" would seem a bit of a stretch to start with
