Vibrating Windows

My neighbours across the road do not like my Mk6 GTI because when I reverse out in the morning it supposedly vibrates their windows and wakes them up. Had a similar problem with my Mk5 GTI and my WRX so I guess I wil have to start reversing into the garage again of a night time just to keep the peace - or perhaps not.

Anyone else have this problem or have I just got over-reacting neighbours or badly designed houses.

I think sadly they would object to hearing ANY noise at all. Just using the car as an excuse to complain.
Is it real early in the morning?
Now, If you had a prime mover warming up, that is a different matter.
Perhaps you could offer to check their windows in case not properly fixed in the frame?

Just read your post again. You say "Accross the road". I was thinking next door!
Man, either you have a megaphone attached to the exhaust, or else they are just plain ultra sensitive to any vehicle you have.
How about people on either side, any prob's there?

Your GTI is stock standard, correct?

Tell your neighbours to fix their house! It's obviously THEIR WINDOWS which are the problem, not your car. Since it is stock, and complies with all Australian Design Rules, and for that matter is known as being a relatively quiet car, their house shouldn't be vibrating. Especially from across the road.

If it has a stock exhaust tell them it is time for new windows or repairs. NOT YOUR PROBLEM.

If you have an aftermarket exhaust take note and reverse in. Do the right thing incase they report you and you get a nice letter in the mail.

It's their windows — we live in an old timber house and have the same thing.

It's not a particular problem, just a rattle now and again and we don't complain.

One of the worst offenders is the police helicopter — it rattles the whole house.

Various motorcycles can do the same, as sometimes does the wind.

You might suggest they stick a bit of felt or rubber strip in the affected windows.

Then again, some people would complain if their pants were on fire...

LOL, that's hilarious! No doubt the lower frequencies of the GTI exhaust are what set off the neighbours' windows, but as has been said, there's nothing unreasonable about it nor anything you can really do about it. +1 for politely suggesting to them that they look at reinforcing their window frames.

I am hard of hearing (age problem) so have TV up loud using external amp and good quality speakers.

Checked with neighbours just in case. No prob, don't notice anything. (Nice neighbours)

GTi Crow if you want something for them to complain about I can lend you a cammed clubbie. It will rattle their teeth as well as their windows.

To rattle the windows across the road you'd have to be moving an awful lot of air. If you can get hold of a decibel meter (your local council would probably have one) get your exhaust measured at one metre distance. If it complies with health and safety regulations your neighbours can't complain about the noise of your car's exhaust.

It's a pretty quiet car, just imagine if you had a chevy or Mazda chook cooker..
