  • Suspension squeak over speed bumps

Hey guys...noticed this one today with my window open. It's not a rattle!!!

As I go over speed bumps, my front axle makes a squeak. Only happens on one side.

Is that something to get checked out? Nothing big that can wait until first service?

    Thanks

Most likely only a bush flexing, especially if it's louder when cold. My 1988 Cressida did it from day one for the next 20+ years — nothing went wrong.

      +1 for the bush...

Especially if it's been wet and a bit of moisture got to one..

          I note you have ACC
Does it change at different settings?

hmm...I havent tried that out. I only pass 2 speed bumps a day when I get to work..haha. Will change it tonight and see how it goes. It's set to Comfort 95% of the time

Lol, I agree...but the roads I have to drive on to get to work are a killer...Pittwater mainly...brutal bumps and potholes...if I put it on anything other than Comfort, my butt kills me...and the car rattles like mad. Comfort eases it a bit...but still not by much.

Yeah - I'm near your area. Pittwater would be my out of the way "good" alternative
Hoping to receive a call from VW that my new rear suspension mounts in the Polo GTI have arrived to have them replaced

Haha...if Pittwater is your good alternative, I'd hate to see what your normal route is!

My GTI MK6 started to squeak two weeks ago over bump. Great first the rattling and now the squeak. It is not the $50K car I expected. Also at one stage my reverse camera displayed a distorted image. It only could be reset when turning the car off and on again. I have taken a photo of it with my phone. I will let VW know when I am taking it in for a service 8 months from now.

I have heard the rattling is from a flood gate but what is that? Why is it less rattling when more people sitting in the car?

It's the actuator rod for the turbo waste gate, not a flood gate

Please refer to the MK6 GTI - Rattle upon acceleration thread for discussion on that topic.
