  • GTI Lump on the side skirt

    Hi members

i've got a MK6 GTI recently picked.. has anyone notice on the bottom both sides of the side skirts there is this lump across it.. Dealer told me it's some sort of rust protection..

has anyone notice this lump in their cars?

Is it a small plastic guard extension perhaps?
If so, this is to ensure your 18's are legal, as the offset makes them very close to the guards

Hi Bob, unfortunately it's not.. it's on the side skirt.. when you use your hands to swipe across it, it's not even, it's got lump towards the edges of the skirting.. it's not structure damage or anything..

If you mean the side skirts look and feel uneven, it's a plasticised finish to resist damage from road debris etc.

All current Golfs I've seen have it, including my own.

Hi Idle, thanks for the info, that's what i thought to.. but if that's the case, wouldn't that have been applied to all cars.. it just look uneven that's all.. but if it's for a good cause i can accept it..

You're not referring to the notch at either end where you attach the car jack?

You'll find all Golfs will have it. That part of the sill is reinforced to take the weight of the car when you lift it with the car's jack. If you were to put the jack further down the sill and lifted it, it would crush the sill!!

You may want to post a photo of what you're specifically talking about, as this thread is rather confusing
I've edited the thread title, but it's still sorta useless without a photo.

It's a little triangle indentation pointing to where to put the jack under the car.

Exactly... so how do you confuse a triangle indentation with a "lump" ?

just googled mk6 jacking point and came up with this.

Is the little indentation in the photo what the OP means? Bear in mind this looks like it's an mk5 GTI not mk6.

noowe, this response wasn't asking if this is what you mean. This is the answer to your question. It's just a mark showing where the jack goes. There is no issue with the car.
