  • Motor noise when opening doors

    Hey People.

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed a kinda of motor noise when you first open the door after unlocking. It is quite faint and as such I have no idea where it is coming from . I initially thought it may be like in the lexus' where the steering wheel retracts, but the golf doesn't have that obviously so it was a fleeting thought. Another thought it that xould be the auto air recirculation, as in when the car is parked it may automatically initiate the car to go into 'recirculation' mode to prevent any night time smells. But it has really got me stumped.

Also, have to say I love the sucking noises when you open up the doors quickly... the car must be awesomely sealed.

Does anyone know what it may be?

    Cheers,

    Pete

Yeh mine does that, the buzz of an electric motor when you first open the door.

I believe the noise is the fuel pump priming.

The RNS-510 makes a boot-up noise when you first open the driver's door after having left the car for some time, but as you don't have sat-nav in your sig, I guess it's not that. It's possible that the RCD-510 does the same thing though?

It would be the fuel pump priming itself, ready for action.

Same thing with the MKV...only I think the MKV is considerably louder. Sounds great.

Nah it's the aircon opening the air vents I believe. This was covered in another thread a few weeks before and according to Maverick, the aircon system shuts the vents when you switch off the car to minimise unwanted odour from intruding into the cabin. It then reopens the vents when you open the doors the next time you use the car. Hope this helps

If it's the fuel pump, why does it sound like it's coming from the front of the car rather than the rear? I had assumed it was either the stereo or the climate control system starting up.

Cause the fuel pump is in the engine bay

Edit: Infact, if you check out this post from Guy_H there are several photos of the Scirocco 24 hour cars, and you can see the fuel pump clearly in the engine bay:

So that's what you're hearing when you open the doors
Although, the aircon, rns-510 and other things do and can all make noises when you open the doors too!

Mines only the baby brother, but it has a fuel pump in the rear (at the fuel tank) which I clearly hear run for a couple of seconds on opening the drivers door. Would not the GTI have an Auxiliary fuel pump at the tank as well? Otherwise priming after and empty tank would be problematic.

yeah - there's possible more than one... the High Pressure Fuel Pump in the engine bay and one in the back of the car...
