Even more so. Better than cable release, one less item to cause rattles.

Think you've just got too look at it all in a positive way... The lack of bracket (really, a thread about this?) and button in the front all save weight making the cars faster and more enviromentally friendly

Agree absolutely. Always scared of eventually scrathing the duco by putting it how it is suppose to. Never did it right in 4 years with my GTI. My wife's car - a 2000 Toyota Corolla has an excellent system to hold the cap compared to the GTI and is substantially less decked out with everything else. But, hey neither are that much of a problem.

Not if you respected your car's paint finish. on the bowser ftw!

How so? Both systems have a solenoid at the rear of the car, one is locked all the time except when a button is pressed at the front of the car and the other is unlocked all the time when the car is unlocked. The single wire that runs to the front of the car is not going to cause a rattle and neither is the switch in the door.

Could someone please take a photo - My car is on order, and I'm really struggling to picture this.

              Cheers!

I've lost a petrol cap in the past, left it on top of the petrol bowser and drove off!

Our Grand Voyager has a great system, the cap is keylocked (use a little removable traditional key from the electronic key device) and has a small length of insulated wire connected to it, which hooks over the inside of the petrol cap flap so you can't close the flap without putting the cap on, and you can't lose the cap either.

                    Hey Mr Gee,
according to the owners manual you go to the top of the class, well done!
Did any of you look in your owners manuals to see where it was supposed to sit?
No meaning this to sound like a sarcastic remark, just trying to establish if the cap is falling off where Mr Gee has got his?

I went to fill up on Friday for the first time and also didnt know where to put the cap (note to ones self, must look in owners manual when
I get home) then forgot about it till I saw this thread, so then went and had a look and yep just like Mr Gee has done.

                        Sorry Maverick
Was referring to mechanical cable in my Corolla re potential for rattle.

So like, now someone has posted a photo (thanks mr gee - I can confirm the MKIV Polo GTI works exactly the same way) and someone else has read the manual to confirm that's the correct method (thanks GTI-mk6), can I close off this thread now?

Or do people still have several pages of complaining to do about how it could have been designed better?
