    Hey guys, don't think this has been asked before (shoot me if it has).

    Are they essentially the same? Completely different? Curious as to how they actually differ.

    Reply to my own post..haha...should have added in the reason why I started this thread. Read this from a site reviewing the Scirocco

    It certainly hits the mark. The basic suspension is from the Golf GTI, but some of the components have been made from aluminium to help reduce weight, while the wider track also improves the car’s dynamics. On top of that, the VW has the firm’s Adaptive Chassis Control (ACC) as standard. The set-up is effectively the same as the Magnetic Ride system that’s an option on the TT.
    The Audi system uses actual magnetic fields to adjust the firmness of the dampers. Is this what ACC does also?

      This isn't really the forum for this topic, because ACC is generic to the entire VW brand, and Magnetic Ride is obviously an Audi thing. But I too am interested in the answer.

      But being that this isn't MK6 specific, have you searched the entire VWWc forum on terms like "Adaptive Chassis Control" "Dynamic Chassis Control" and "Magnetic Ride" to see whether there are results in other subforums?

        understood corey, wasn't sure where to put the thread. this is really the only forum I read/post (other than the audio forum).

        I have searched....nothing specific that compares them. I end up getting tons of search results back when searching those terms...I really can't traverse through all of them.

          My understanding is that magnetic ride has tiny little metal particles like rods in the shock fluid, and the magnetic field (when on) orients them across the shock, thus impeding the flow of fluid and making the suspension stiffer. This requires low current and no real moving parts.

          ACC in the volkswagens appears to be a hydraulically adjustable solution.

          Not 100% sure though.

                good find!! I believe that sums it up quite well.

                at the end of the day, doesn't really go into which is better, etc (sure there would be some subjectiveness there)

                also thank VW for not charging audi pricing. $2400 for the magnetic ride!

                    Which kind of suggest that you could "reflash" the system to give you differing handling characteristics or match it to differing spring rates.

                    HSV and Cadillac also use the Delphi system (in fact I think Cadillac was one of the first)

                      Magnetic ride depends on ferrite particles in the oil. This is called Ferrrofluid
                      When subject to a magnetic field, this causes the viscosity of the oil to change. Controlling the magnetic field controls the viscosity
                      These tiny particles, by moving through a magnetic field, have an induced current.
                      This current sets up an opposing magnetic field, so as to resist this movement.
                      A more technical name is Magneto Rheological Damper

                      It was after reading this article all doubts were resolved.
                      PS, Ferrofluid also used as damping medium in high quality speakers.
