At 0:54 there is a Warning chime and something is annunciated in the center of your MFD (Three lines of text but I cannot read what it says). Exactly 10 seconds later at 1:04 the Warning clears & your MFD returns to "Consumption" (which is what it was on before the Warning chime) and annuciates MFD across the top to let you know it is back on the normal screen. Again it does this for another 10 seconds exactly, to 1:14 when the time/Gear display returns clearing the MFD text. So the time/Gear disappearing is not spontaneous, it is being overwritten in response to the chime, I think. The clue here is the exact 10 second intervals which tie in with the display timeout.

Yeah - I was just watching it and noticing the same thing logger. To me it looks as though it's doing what it's meant to be doing. The only thing I was not able to see is as you, what the warning was.
Edit: is it saying "Speed 75 km/h exceeded" ?
@ozgti - this was explained in this thread, if you have a warning such as speed limit, or low fuel, the MFD will display that, then change back do your previous screen. The change of screen will announce its title and the gear indicator will temporarily disappear and then reappear after 10 seconds. This all appears normal in your video.
Yeah - once the warnings are disabled, it should only go to "titled and then gear" when you tell it to change displays. So if it still does it on its own then, that would be when "sticky buttons" or software bugs would need to be investigated. A video would sure help in that situation (as long as the video clearly shows that no buttons etc were pressed).
I wish there was a way to turn it off with the manual gearbox. Other than being irritating, because I know when to change gear, if I wanted to be fuel efficient I'd have bought a diesel!

Most people are complaining because they can't see it enough. Some people have specifically commented that they find it really useful that it tells them when to change gears. Now someone is complaining that they hate that it tells them when to change gears.
... But if VW put it in the MFD you'd have a host of other people complaining that there are already too many options in the MFD and it's too hard to find anything.... and then you'd have another host of people complaining that the MFD is now called an MFI.
Sorry - I'm not wanting to specifically have a go at anyone in particular, but I mean guys - all these features are the reasons you buy a Volkswagen. If you want a basic car, then go buy one! Toyota and the Korean brands are still making basic cars for those who don't want all these bells and whistles

As it was aimed at me, since it is rather pointed out that I 'whinged' about the fact it could not be turned off, I'll respond. I was not whinging at all, merely stating that I find a certain amount of irony that in a 'hot hatch' there is a permanent system aimed at fuel economy. Given the flexibility of the other options, I was surprised there was not one for this. Having an opinion that you disagree with is not whinging.
I thought forums such as this were good places to share info and opinions. Variety is the spice of life and all that. I've read some good info on here so trust this is not what happens everytime someone posts? Maybe I said it in the wrong way and if so, I apologise...

There could be a very good reason why VW doesn't let you turn off the upchange indicator. Specifically, results in
economy tests etc.

There seems to be alot of this on this forum. Picking at the most insignificant issue whether it is one or not.
Stereos intermittantly not showing the station name, wipers that sometimes park 3 mm higher than usual, the nerve of VW to include DRLs, modern engines should never rattle on start up, etc etc etc....
I suspect that if you could turn off the indicator, there'd be a bunch of people here complaining that they have to turn it off and on whenever they want to go into and out of fuel saving styles of driving
