Gear indicator on MFD

Is there a way to keep the gear indicator and time on the MFD without having to go onto the setup screen? It bugs the hell out of me when I go to manual mode and the gear indicator disappears for a few seconds! I managed to down change to 2nd at a not so healthy speed because of this!

Anyone?

ye it irritates me as well, especially when you are in manual mode and something on the display changes like fuel warning and speed warning etc. You loose what gear you are in and it always seems to be the time i need to change.

I'm not sure I get it. It's like, surely you don't look down when changing gears in your manual car. Why the need for something to tell you what gear you're in with the DSG when in manual ?

What Coreying said, if you're "in tune" with your motor then you'll instinctively know which gear you need to select, if you miss-judge, the car wont let you destroy the motor.

I sometimes forget what gear I'm in on my motorbike too...especially when down gearing coming into a corner. Hopefully I won't get the same effect in DSG GTI.

Never have this problem in a manual since I can tell what gear I'm in just by putting my hand on the gear knob

Manuals are easier, but it's handy to know what gear you are in (for me anyways). I prefer manual over DSG, but I had to get this one as my gf drives auto's only!

One has to go with the flow, who knows, you may grow to like it. I know I did. So much better than an auto.

You should be using the tacho and feel of the engine to tell you you need to use a higher or lower gear. With a sequential shift selector, knowing the gear number is not required.

Aren't you able to tell just by listening to the car whether or not you need to change gears ?
If not - you're probably better off leaving the auto in auto-mode

I do not know about you but i drive with music most of the time, with the gold being quiet anyway i hear nothing!

Test drive a TSI DSG and go from D/S to M without looking at the MFD and YOU try to tell what gear the car is in and work accordingly. Without the display, when you shift from D/S to M, the gear doesn't automatically come up on the MFD. Having the golf trying to decide if it wants 6 or 7 at 60kph then trying to work back, I'm fairly certain that shifting to 2 when you want 3 gets abit tiresome at times. I grabbed 1st instead of 2nd slowing to turn into a Left side street, that was fun in the wet... NOT!

I can tell when to change gears, it's knowing which gear I am in when I go from D/S to M when the MFD doesn't show you what time/gear you are in.

See above, drive it in D/S mode then switch to M mode and tell me what gear you are in!
