  • Clicking sound when turning off the car and taking out the key MK6 GTI

Hi guys just noticed today then when the engine is on for a minute or so and i turn it off and then take out the key the is like a clicking sound for about 5 seconds. Sounds like somthing is retracting sort of (dika, dika, dika, dika, dika, dika) then it goes away.

Anyone else noticed this or know what it is?

Never happened before today and the mirrors don't fold or anything.
If i step out of the car i can't hear it, can only hear when i am inside the car.

Is it coming from the fusebox area? That'd be my guess.

I cant actually tell, sound like the middle of the dash, but really don't know.
Might have to call VW service department if it keeps happening.

does it sound like something electrical? I know after I turn my car off, the RNS510 keeps going for a bit...not sure what's is doing...sounds like the CD changer is going or something

yeah - i would discribe it like that too... I know i have got a sound similar to that when I turn off the car. Occurs when I put the key into the ignition to start too - so i figured it was something along those lines.. Given it happens everyone - i assumed nothing to worry about.

Nah i don't think it sounds electrical, um hard to describe, more like a loud compressor machine like sound. Has about 6 or 7 "retracting" type noises and then stops.
I have not heard it untill tonight. Had the car for about 2 months now.

Open the bonnet and listen at the back near the firewall immediately after you turn it off. I have heard a similar noise but believe it relates to the RNS510. Is it louder in the engine bay or inside the car?

It's the Air Conditioner doing some cleanup.

Can't hear it from outside the car. I did put my ear to the bonnet and could not hear anything.

You don't have a choice, the AC compressor is always running.

So that would mean that the noise wont happen all the time, just when the AC is "dirty"?

No it happens at different times as required, it changes the positions of the flaps when shutting down to minimise odours.

Then what does the "AC" button on the climate controls do?
