I have one ready for NSW, apart from the "registration cost". Cars weighing (Tare) 1155kg to 1504kg cost $285 to register in NSW, and 1505kg to 2504kg costs $406.... I'm waiting to see whether the official specs for the R in Australia put it above or below or that! (It hopefully will since it's 1541kg in the UK with a 68kg driver)

I personally cant wait till they come out, might even trade the mkIV in on a golf R...

** insert Tim Allen grunt here **

The only thing i know of that i dont like on them is that they're cambelt engines PAIN IN THE ARSE

Very tempting. I am now glad that VW could not find the CSG specced car I was after to be delivered by the end of June.

Anyone here got any insurance quotes yet for the R?

Best you can do is get a quote for an R32 and GTI as they won't have anything else to go by at this stage.

I personally prefer the standard seats (in leather), than the Recaro seats. I find the standard seats to be very supportive, and more comfortable. And hey, at $5,300 less, that's good for me

Each to their own though. Seats and seat adjustments are a very personal thing.

Everyone who sees the Recaro's later wan't them badly.. but too expensive to buy from parts later.. would be worth considering!!

Oh yeah of course each to their own taste.

Some people like the standard GTI seats over the leather ones. Not my place to judge.

BUT for me personally... if i was paying 50k for a car, what is another few grand for the extras? like sat nav, adjustable seats, leather etc. BUT when i buy a car, it is not at my cash limit... i only buy a certain amount worth of car if i definitely have alot of the top, don't like pushing the budget.

Wow this is seriously a lot less than i was expecting. Looks like the S3 option is out for me now unless theres some insane queue for 5 doors
Blue looks better than I thought. White would be my choice but that side on pics looks a bit hmm yeah plain

Those are standard prices, not including government charges and onroad costs. Box standard drive away price would be 56-57... when you think about it is only a 2l afterall, so they can't exactly sell it for much more than the gti.
