Because your car is so new they won't waste time with repairing it. Our Jetta was 4 weeks old when it got rear ended by a motor bike and the damage was a little worse than yours and they just got a new rear bumper in. But once a car has had areas resprayed its never the same again. We had ours fixed at the best place in town and it took them 2 go's to get the paint to my standard. Good luck with it all.

So, they've asked me to get a second quote. Going today at lunch. They also want an assessor to review it first, as it is such a new car.

They've asked me to confirm with my dealer that the new car warranty will not be affected. Can VW void my warranty if I don't choose a certain repairer? Neither of the repairers I have selected are VW accredited repairers. None close to me in any way. Finding one would be a LONG drive.

They're only changing the bumper right?

I've found that VW are very good with their warranty. If you change or modify something, and something else unrelated fails, there is no warranty issue. The only time there is a warranty issue is where the thing that you have changed or modified fails or causes something to fail. So I can't see how the changing of a rear bumper would have any effect on warranty - except, if the rear park sensors or number plate lights or their wiring is damaged in the change over process.

Umm, yes, I assume they're only replacing the rear bumper. When I went to get an estimate yesterday, he was looking all over the place and wrote down ALOT of info. He said he'd send me the estimate as well, but I haven't received it yet.

Such a pain...I get rear ended, and I have to run around left right and centre to get it fixed up. Now I need a second quote from a QBE accredited repairer. A QBE assessor then needs to independently review it as well. Is this all standard process? Or am I getting the run around? Must be the canadian accent....

It's fairly standard. Many insurers will ask for two quotes from you and then ask that an inspecter can view the car.

The alternative is that you leave the car with the insurer and they do everything... but then you have no choice

Sounds much like the AAMI system.

Well, received the first quote from my preferred repairer. Would you believe that those two little creases in the original pic has been estimated at $2200?

The price of the bumper part alone is $1200.

I shoulda been a panel beater...

                    Also the NRMA system...
And the Shannons system... which would mean it's also the GIO system...

I'd say they would all do it (whether in this method or some other way). It wouldn't make any business sense not to, cause then what would be stopping anyone from making bogas claims.

Alas, my insurance assessor called me an hour ago. The estimates have been approved, however, not for my preferred repairer. They've approved the estimates for the other guy...who has next to zero experience working on VW's...let alone brand new ones.

Apparently my guy was $360 more than the other guy, and they're both doing the same thing. Replacing the same parts.

Wonder why they let you choose your own repairer when in the end they always choose theirs. Wouldn't be surprised if my insurer called up their preferred repairer and told them to low ball my quote. I reckon it's all a scam. And I work for this company...haha.

See how it goes I guess. If it's off my a millimetre, I'm taking it back.

Regardless, I wanted to tell my insurer about it to be safe. I also didn't want to deal with his insurer directly, as I don't like AAMI's policy of not being able to choose your repairer. QBE certainly does, and I'm sure in this case they won't care, as they will flick the bill over to AAMI to pay.

I'm regretting not accepting the guy's offer of letting his mate fix it though =). There needs to be a better emoticon for sarcasm
This is what your premiums pay for! Your time i am sure is more valuable than chasing up some moron....take a load off and ket QBE do the work. Good Luck.

As I said before. You can pick your own repairer! But you must provide two quotes. Which means you need to pick the two repairers that you want, that way no matter which one of them is the cheapest, you'll get what you want (as long as they're not both bodgy and the insurance accessor disagrees).

If you only provide a single quote, then how would they know whether it's appropriate or not unless they get a 2nd quote themselves?

So there is no 'scam' happening - you just need to familiarise yourself better with the PDS and the industry practices.

The scam seems to be that your repairer wants to overcharge
