It may be just my angle on things but MX-5's look way less masculine to me than an Eos.
MX-5 - Very curvy cutey look. Not that I really care anyway because I buy what I like and I could live with either though the MX-5 reminds me of the Goggomobil Dart on steroids.

what engines does the Eos come with?
i'll admit i've never paid them any attention due to their looks and being what they are.

The EOS comes with the 103TDI engine, or the 147T(F)SI which was in the MKV GTI. So the 147TSI in the EOS is rather spirited, and if you wanted to do a Stage I or II upgrade, is a lot of fun!

Yeah, as with all hard-top convertibles, it's heavier.... 1546kg - so around 200kg heavier than a stock GTI. If you are in the market for a "luxury hard top convertible", they are a nice car. They're (as far as I'm aware) still the first and only convertible on the market with a panoramic sunroof. So you can either have the roof completely down, or have it almost "targa style", or have the glass closed but all that light coming through, or have everything closed. So because of that it's very flexible and probably useful throughout more of the year.

But I'm not really a convertible fan no matter what the car. I've had an MX-5 for a week here and there over a 3 or 4 year period. A friend of mine would need to swap her car with mine when she had her step-children living with her but no alternative car. The MX-5 is fun and all... but I was glad to be able to hand that back and get back into my Golf or Polo

My new boss has an Eos and was saying he was thinking ahead for his next car on his car allowance to end up owning it for his daughter.

I told him to keep the Eos as it was an awesome chicks car ( quite genuinely ), he got rather cut.

i don't really think convertibles in general are all that suitable for this climate.. top down in summer is too damn hot (not to mention the sunburn), and too cold in winter..
i find myself using the car in the middle of the day in winter, or at night in summer.

on the other hand, when i am driving it at those times, it's worth it! if it's running that is.. 40 yr old british cars aren't the most solidly built vehicles

Ha ha ha!!! I find the people who get upset most and shout out how they can't give a damn about what people think etc are probably the ones most conscious about the girlie cars they drive (not mentioning names on this forum). Come on.....it IS a girl's car!

There is very little difference beween a GTI and an Eos tome. Look very similar.

On the original topic, I would say that my wife's YELLOW Pirelli is considered a GIRLY car, until of course you drive it. I turn up to golf on Saturdays and members in the carpark always ask if I am driving my wife's car.

Isn't it the only Pirelli colour not available in other Golfs? When I think of Pirelli Golf I think yellow. Those seats are awesome with yellow stitching!

Yes unfortunately as I've said before, its the basic shape of the Golf which feminises it, bright colours don't help either. Do you get uncomfortable silence when you declare its actually your car and not your wife's? I love the Pirelli though and performance-wise its out of this world.
