The Golf is definitely not a girly car. Rather, it is more asexual. It is known for its technical, German engineering over its emotional appeal.

My last car, a Honda Jazz, was a girly car!

Rock up in a 2.0 TSI or TDI in red and it might be a girly car. But driving in a CSG GTI with 18"'s and it's not.

I don't consider a Golf a girly car, hot hatch's are pretty popular now...

I'd rather be driving the GTI than a bogan mobile, but a few mods can toughen it up nicely.

You should be confident with your choice and not worry about what other people think.

          I find this thread amusing....

It's like the person who says "Hey, does this jacket make me look cool?" - well, if you have to ask if you're cool, then you're not!

So when you're asking yourself "Do I look like a man in this car?" - well no, if you have to ask, you're a girl

Hence my initial post. I don't at all think that the Golf GTI is a girly car.

Plus, as a few people have mentioned, hot hatches have been around for quite a while and have typically been the domain of men, especially in Europe where they never had the "bogan mobiles" that we have had here.

Well I have to say that after coming from a cute red 89' MX-5, widely known to be the manliest car ever made, my golf GTI looks a bit like a toy .

Thinks her old man is wimp for buying 118TSI. Therefore diesel is girly car!

I guess the Golf is more like a "Wolf in sheep skin" & understated. Clearly unless you whack a big winged spolier, side-skirts & fat tyres on it, you will not attract anyone driving around in a Subaru STi, Nissan or similar.
You can certainly jazz up a GTI to make it more "manly", but than most people who can afford a GTI should have grown out of the big-spoiler-which-doesn't-do-anything-car anyway

...i'm soooo sorry about the spelling mistake! Don't run over me in the GTI

This thread made me think of the first year or so that we had our MINI. People would literally stop and watch as we drove past. Lots of people would come over as I was parking and want to have a yarn about the car as well. Now that there are more of 'em this never seems to happen. I guess the fact that there are so many Golfs about there isn't much chance of them getting a lot of notice.

I'm not sure that the GTI will be as much of a 'head turner' but I'm sure that they wouldn't be called a hairdresser's or girl's car these days. My old Mazda 121 bubble was such a car though.

Ah, so it's an old mans car then? I should feel quite at home then..
