Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • MK6 GTI Launch Control - How? Void Warranty?

I have heard people say that the MK6 GTI has launch control if you option on the DSG Gearbox.

How do you enable this? is it a simple press (or hold down) of a button? Do you just put it into sport mode, hold down the brake and accelerator and let go of the brake?

And does it void the warranty?

I know on the BMW M3 and Nissan GTR that after a certain amount of attempts, it voids the cars warranty. Is it the same case with the GTI?

And has anyone here actually performed this on their MK6 GTI?

Search and you shall find. Seriously, Pauly!

    Launch Control and Warranty

    Launch Control Issue

    Launch Control with DSG

how many times have you used your DSG's launch control?

    ...for a start.

Yes, DSG has a limited form of launch control - it will let you 'effectively' drop the clutch at up to 3,000rpm. The technique is described in the owner's manual too, and makes no reference to voiding your warranty. Obviously, if you were to use it frequently you'd be placing a lot of strain on the clutch, gearbox, and other drivetrain components - if any of those parts broke and the breakage could be attributed to excessive abusive driving, VW should be within their rights to deny a warranty claim. I doubt I'll use it on my GTI..

LOL he never learns. Wait until he gets his car and the questions I mean threads will start flowing! The mods should remove his "create new post" button

I wouldn't worry about damage or excessive wear to the car, it's worth doing just to see how it works even if you don't use it very often.

100% agree Mav, and I have used it a few times now, on a Passat CC V6 and a Skoda Octavia RS. It certainly does make for a good launch.

Realistically, I'll probably try it once or twice once my car's run in, to see how my GTI goes from a standstill. But I won't be itching to do it regularly, and I try not to thrash my cars.

I did do a search. I used the search bar in the top right of the screen. looked through a couple of pages and found nothing. Thus the reason for creating a post.

I'd recommend giving the advanced search a go, search for forums and posts, and try a few different keyword variations if your first search doesn't turn up what you're looking for. So, for a topic like this, you might try searching on terms like "acceleration", "wheelspin" and "traction", in addition to the more obvious ones like "launch", "control" and "dsg".

            Happy searching!

I haven't tried out LC on mine yet, I don't think I'll use it much either but would be ok now and then.

As far as searching it usually helps seaching for thread titles not posts (in advanced).

It's handy for thrashing R32's off the line!

Hmm might give this a shot once I have a few more km on the car.

                  Sounds fun

DSG clutch is under warranty. Or so I was told by the technician at the VW dealership here... so, if you have a failed clutch within warranty period, it will be covered, given teh information/advice I was alerted to.
More opportunites have been lost from indecision, rather than wrong decision....

A salesman made a point of taking me out and demonstrating LC. I specifically asked whether there would be warranty problems and he said that it's a feature and they were shown how to use it. He did it a couple of times and to be honest it felt a little 'brutal'. He loved it though! Maybe I'm getting old!

I wouldn't use it for every take off but the dealers only care about the car lasting for 3 years, not 5 or 10 etc.
It would probably create more rattles with the jolty take off IMO.
