Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Funny thing..... same here but mine is 90TSI DSG. Noumerous trips to the dealer have not solved the problem.

Also when the start automatic is running in the morning (the first 10-15 seconds) and I just tap the accelerator I get some misfire.

    Looking forward to some suggestions

exact problem I had. It got worse. Then the light on the dash came on (something about exhaust). it got worse. I took it in and they found loss of compression on cylinder one. It was booked in for a full check but before I got there it got a lot worse (jerky ride, loss of power). Warning came on to take the car straight to the service centre. Turned out to be the dreaded fuel injector - cracked piston issue. I finally got the car back last week after about a month in the garage.
      Great, Not!

      • Count me in as another unfortunate statistic. Just got my 118TSI back from the workshop today, it's had its timing belt, pistons, water pump, gaskets and other assorted bits and bolts replaced under warranty. We thought it was a minor issue when it was vibrating oddly at idle, turns out it was something major. And this comes after the DSG had its clutch pack replaced last year due to it hestitating and shuddering!

This thread has been an eye opener, I wish I knew about the bad combination before I bought the car last year. I'm now considering cutting my losses and selling it while it still has some value. Might get something Japanese but there aren't many alternatives which compare to the interior and handling of the Golf. I might hold out till the new Mazda 3 comes out or even consider the Lexus CT200h if the budget can stretch that far!

Build date is December 2010. I'm presuming that comes after Service Campaign 24S4? Interestingly after we got the car back after the DSG was serviced the fuel economy dropped a little so maybe it was running lean during the first ~25,000kms of the car and did the damage before we got it fixed at 28k.

Yes your service campaign was done at factory, it's a MY 11 model, I think this tread title is misleading its clear the issue isn't fixed, people are still having engine issues with late model golf 118tsi, so I'm not sure why the title claims the issue is resolved..

                • I had all four pistons replaced, but I still have problems. And the DSG clutch shudder is getting worse again.

I hope VW extends its Chinese recall to Australia. In fact, we owners should demand it.

I don't think Volkswagen cares about our little market share sadly.

But this is the Age of the Internet. And we have one of the biggest, and best respected, online forums dedicated to Volkswagen products. Our audience is international, and influential.

What we lack in size, we make up for with credibility. Marketing is very important for every company in this day and age - and Internet marketing is a huge and critical part of that.

We do have power, and we should use it to insist that ALL Volkswagen customers get a fair deal.

I love my Golf, and I just want it to do what Volkswagen promised it would do. Give me that, and I'll be a fanboy. Cheat me, and I will tell others of my experience.

Sums up my feelings as well, after the new engine bit at 24K. Love to love the Golf, but...

You won't get anywhere unless you start writing to the AUS GM of VW & the International CEO. Aussies are so apathetic & expect everyone else to take action while they whinge to their mates

Tried that. They don't give a sh*t and then they just end up replacing her anyway so then she can be made a scapegoat.

                              • Just had the CEL and EPC light go on with the horrendously rough idle. Started idling worse than my high compression cammed 8v MK2 (idles like a harley). I will be getting it towed to a VW dealer in the upper north shore (Sydney). I'm pretty nervous, as the car is now 3.5 years old. I'm hoping statutory warranty covers it, as it has only done approximately 40,000kms.

We've had it since new, and had the DSG clutches replaced.

                                So.... class action?
