So disappointed VW Australia!
I purchased my Golf wagon less than 4 ½ years ago…with 72100km on the clock. There were issues that were diagnosed (“misfiring & running rough”) and repaired before I drove it home (“Removed all pistons and inspected found no damage marks but found cylinder bore scored. Removed and replaced base (long) motor as per DISS advice, tested OK. Replaced all injectors as advised.”) Work carried out at VW Osborne Park
Then at almost 78000km, I returned it to be serviced, reporting a shudder between 2nd & 3rd gears. That was repaired under warranty (“Vehicle presented with shuddering/jerking on take off and acceleration. Carried out GFF and checks to transmission electronics, all ok. Shuddering coming from multiple clutch assy due to clutch material prematurely wearing out. Removed gearbox and replaced clutch pack.”) REALLY?? Relieved it was under warranty, but REALLY whole new clutch assy at less than 80000km!? Work carried out at VW Osborne Park
I took it for a service in Feb 2016 at 98483km, reporting again a shudder between 2nd & 3rd. Although this was occurring regularly when I drove it, the mechanics were unable to find it?! (“On inspection of the shudder…the technician has been unable to confirm any fault at the time of testing. The vehicle was test driven and then a full diagnostic scan was carried out. No faults have been found or recordered (sic)…” ) I was advised if I could replicate it (!?) to bring it back in. Work carried out at VW Melville
Just before Christmas, took it to be serviced at 126520km. Once again I reported the shudder, and also the engine warning light was on. This time the shudder was confirmed as an “irrepairable (sic) malfunction of double clutches”! LESS THAN 50000km AFTER THE WHOLE THING WAS REPLACED!?!? So two clutch replacements in less than 130000km?! It was pointed out that had VW Melville picked it up, it SHOULD have been dealt with under warranty then!
The engine light was diagnosed as a compression issue, recommending the pistons be removed to check for damage! AGAIN??!? From what I was told VW Australia have since realised that the pistons used to replace the originals were substandard!! And again less than 50000km later they need to be replaced!! Work carried out at VW Mandurah
After considerable effort by the VW Mandurah Warranty Manager (Thanks Leonie) AND a long phone call myself with VW Australia Customer Care, during which I explained all of this (allegedly my case was ‘escalated’ to THE Management Team). They have offered to pay for the parts for both issues (rightly so given they are FAULTY!!) but I apparently still have to wear the cost of 80% of the labour??!
Having been a loyal VW driver for years, my husband also has one…and having worn the extra expense of going to VW dealerships for servicing…I am now having to pay the bill for work that is a direct result of either poor parts or poor workmanship (OR BOTH!!)
Given the brand damage that VW have done to themselves – I am incredulous that they won’t go further to repay the loyalty of people like me who have been brand ambassadors forever! We are currently looking to buy a new car, and I am sad to say that as a direct result this appalling experience, it is unlikely to be a VW.
