    Hello All

I was on holiday over in Europe recently and had the pleasure of driving both a Golf Plus diesel and also a BMW 118d.

I don't know if it was also because the Golf plus had a slightly higher seat positioning but the engine noise made me feel like I was driving a tractor/van/bus. Whereas, the BMW felt so much more refined and so much more quiet, that I wouldn't have known it was a diesel had it not had a "d" after the 118.

I know we are not getting the Golf Plus down under, and I dont even know if they share the same diesel engine as the Golfs, but I just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced the same thing. Or if Golf diesels are less refined compared to a BMW...

    Thanks

there well over 20k difference in price for a start, you can't unfortunately have everything in a 30k car!

The golf plus is also their "off-road" variant so it probably isn't going to be as luxurious/smooth as a bmw.

There is a reason that BMW always wins the engine design awards.
Plus as said above, 20k difference could buy you an awful lot of sound deadening.

Was the Golf common rail, that is, the latest engine? The older PD mechanical injection I have on my MKV is a LOT noisier over common rail, the latest injection method. Is the Golf plus an economy model, perhaps with older engines from the MKV?

The Golf Plus isn't an economy, or 'offroad' model. It's pretty much just a larger version of the Golf which fits between the regular Golf and "minivan" people movers. The Golf Plus is actually what the Tiguan is based on.
