Mkvi tail lights

I noticed the other night driving home, a nice carbon steel TSI in front of me. I noticed that the tail light section on the tailgate section were not lit up, yet the outside ones were. These still did not light up when he applied the brakes.

My GTI however, has these lights on. They turn off when I open the boot lid and turn back on when I close it.

My question is ........ Is this a model specific thing, or is there possibly an issue on his TSI?

Maybe they didn't close the boot properly? They should light up... though you could also cut the wires so they didn't but that would be a bodge job and look crap IMO.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that the tail light section of the tailgate only lights up when the headlights are on. When you apply the brakes, only the outside ones light up.

I believe that is the rear foglight.
I don't think it is activated in Australia as it could dazzle other drivers (and as such would be illegal in QLD at least)

The light on the driver's side is not a reverse light. There is a single reverse light on the passenger side of the car and a single fog light on the driver's side of the car. Pull your light switch out two notches to turn on the fog light (lights cannot be in "auto" to do this).

Hrm, I would double check that, the reverse light is defiantly on the left had side, as if your reversing out a angle carpark, its the nearest light to been seen, wouldnt pass the ADR's otherwise, think ford focus hatch as well, and rear fog is on the right!

If its the other way round, as you state, head to your dealer!

That's a bit weird. Mine are not set up this way, my GTI has reverse on the left and rear fog light on the right.
I would think that your set up is a LHD set up.

Reversing light is LHS, Fog light is RHS on my TSI
